Unlike computers, the art of cooking well does not change very much over time. This means that if you are into cooking your own meals, then you can purchase an older version. Save a lot, while learning more!
While I have several hundred thousand recipes, I wish I had a LOT more of the type of preparation tips that I found in this book. The number of books in this series says it all!

If you love to cook, it has endless variety. I used the squid recipe just last week! If you hate to cook, it is so clear and fascinating, it will hook you in, anyway. I can't imagine a better cookbook if you could only own one. And You could throw the others out, if you have this. No kidding! You can't stump this author. I have owned it long enough to go from being an indifferent cook to a much better one. Its the secret to being a much better one!Book Review: If you only have one cookbook...

I have a whole bookcase of cookbooks and receipes, but I use this book more than all the others combined. It covers all the basic information you need to know, like how to cook various meats, soup receipes, a killer chocolate cake receipe, how to make blueberry jam, and it also covers nearly every sort of problem that you could have making these things. I personally like this edition much better than the new one, and I'm ordering a few to keep on hand as gifts.Book Review: The Joy of Cooking

This is the best cookbook I have ever used! Although I have a shelf full of good cookbooks, I always reach for The Joy of Cooking when I want learn how to make a dish which I have never made before. The helpful information contained throughout this book is amazing! I am going to send a copy to my eldest daughter for a birthday gift. I bought this book for a friend because I have found it indispensible. I have been using it for about 4 years and it's been able to answer every cooking question I've had in that time. It covers all the basics on how to prepare everything, from meats and fish to vegetables. It also has many excellent classic recipes that never go out of style. Its background information on foods provides very interesting reading, too.
