Island of the Blue Dolphins
By Scott O'Dell
Emily Golden
Have you ever been stranded or left some where alone? Well that's the case for Karana, a brave, thoughtful, and loving 12 year old girl. She gets stranded on her Indian tribe's island, after some greedy, and disrespectful, Aleuts came to hunt otters on their island. Karana learns how to find food, and make weapons to save herself from her enemies, the wild dogs. The wild dogs killed her brother Ramo. She also makes some friends along the way like Rontu, who used to be the pack leader of the wild dogs. Later on Rontu realizes that Karana is kind and will take good care of him and not hurt him like he thinks she will.
Scott O'Dell is an exquisite author because he makes it feel like you are really struggling to live on the island of the blue dolphins with Karana. Also it's so amazing because the word use is not too easy or to hard, it's just right. With the description in this book it's like your right there with Karana. I would recommend this book to any one, it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, or if like sad books, happy books, or exciting books, it is any and every type of book you could ever like. Everyone everywhere needs to read this book.
Book Review: Island of the Blue Dolphins Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful book. I once read this book when I was in 4th grade. It did not really touch me as much then as it did now, reading it as an adult. This is agreat book for any age but especially school age children. I now understand why teachers recommend this book for 4th graders. "Island of the BLue Dolphins" offers so much information about other subjects that are taught in school. Children learn about animals, indians and california missions. Teachers can create wonderful lesson plans that stem from this book. The story in this book was heart warming and sad at the same time. The realtionship that Karana had with the animals when she was by herself was wonderful. I think many children will be able to relate to this kind of relationship. The hardships she went through while she was by herself on the island can give children strength involved in a situation where they need it. Karana is a very brave girl. Her ideas in the book amazed me. The way she made things out of what she had on the island. Through her time on the island, Karana grew closer to the animals and felt less alone. The ending really suprised me. I won't say anything incase you haven't read this. This book was the best children's book I have ever read.
Book Review: A rare gem that everyone should read Summary: 5 Stars
This book is one of those rare books that makes you see your whole world in a different way. Things that seem so important like checking your email or getting a new outfit, pale in comparison to the life Karana was able to lead. Without a complaint or a whimper, she found a way to live on the island by herself for so many years.
I was truly overwhelmed by her physical and mental strength. Then to find out that this was the fictionalized story of a real human being made it feel so much more awe-inspiring. Karana is a true role model for people of all ages.
Although this story is about a girl, I recommend this book to both boys and girls. I think that the things that she did to survive will impress both genders. I also think that it is an important story to read as a way of putting a priority on the precious things in life.
I had the opportunity to read this book when I was young but never did. I'm sorry that I waited so long. This is a beautiful and well-written book. The author's extensive research paid off in the plethora of detail that helped us to feel like we were on the island with Karana. I'm sure I will read it many times over and learn something new with each reading.

Odell used great scented scripter in his book. Odell loved to use long lengthy sconces and descriptive words. Instead of choppy sconces. Odell paints a vangough in your mind. The pictures he creates are so clear in my mind. Odell's langue was so easy to read. Odell's carcture dicription was perfect in your mind. The overall aspects of the book was perfect.
