Definitely more fun to read than your average travel. Also includes plenty of information.
Book Review: Pre trip review Summary: 4 Stars
We are planning a trip to Ireland later this year and being the avid researcher that I am, I started reading castoffs from former tourists a few months ago. We tend to steer clear of the beaten path and to explore God's country and the earth's natural beauty rather than touring institutions. A good day for us is a sunrise, good food, venturing out on our own driving and walking about as we please, taking hundreds of photos of land and seascapes, visiting with the native folks, and enjoying the sunset. I have 3 reference books, Frommer's, Lonely Planet and DK Eyewitness Travel (the only new volume we actually purchased). Upon my return I'll tell you which was the most helpful to suit our needs.
Book Review: Another great DK book Summary: 4 Stars
This guide is very informative and very visual. It makes it a lot easier to know what to expect when you get to Ireland and gives some great suggestions. Most important to me is the thumbnail history of Ireland... up to now my interest in Ireland has been indirect; in other words, it has always been about Ireland in relation to England the the British Empire.
I'm looking forward to using this book during our summer vacation this year!
