Book Reviews of Ireland (Eyewitness Travel Guides)Book Review: Fantastic!! A must-have book for your trip to Ireland! Summary: 5 Stars
Hands down, this is THE travel book one needs for planning a trip to Ireland. Filled with wonderful photos and drawings and interesting text that really tells you about each area, this will be a wonderful resource prior to and during your travels.
The book starts with basic information about Ireland including the people, the economy and a wonderful historical time-line of the country. Of course, it's not exhaustive but it is a great overview of the basics. Next you can explore region by region all that Ireland has to offer. The photos are beautiful and there is an appropriate amount of text (unlike Frommers and Fodors who inundate the reader with too much detail and not enough visual items).
So - the book is pretty and fun to read, but does it include good information? YES! It gives you tons of options of sites to see in each area. It also tells you how best to see each area (by foot or by car) and how long you might want to spend in each area (an afternoon or a few days).
I can't say enough about this book. It is the primary book I've used for planning past trips and the upcoming one I'll be taking. It will also be the only one I carry over to Ireland - it is worth it's weight in gold for the information it contains.
Book Review: As mandatory as a passport Summary: 5 Stars
If you're taking a trip to Ireland and have never been,
or even if you've been multiple times, this guide is
indespensible. Packed with interesting and pertinent
information it will also help you navigate the Island
like a native. The best of AAA maps and directions are
usually useless within towns and small cities. The
3-d maps of town centers solve this problem nicely
for travellers driving themselves. As another reviewer
commented, it's lists of accomodations and restaurants
are far fom comprehensive, but it does give a good
sampling of each in all regions. And if you're just
roaming freely not following a strict itenerary, the
book will nearly overwhelm you with destination ideas.
Book Review: Great Guide Summary: 5 Stars
It's difficult for a guide of this size to be all things to all people. Having said that, I think the Eyewitness Travel made the right choices in designing this book. I like the many pictures, maps and other references. The layout starting with Dublin then going to the various other sections of the island were logical and made things easy to find. The small city we stayed at in Ireland wasnt in the book at all but this didn't present a problem. We were more interested in a broad overview that hit the high points.
Book Review: The best Ireland guide for the money, in my opinion Summary: 5 Stars
I love the DK Publishing Eyewitness travel guide to Ireland. Having recently traveled to Ireland, I brought it with and found it very timely and useful. It has great information, illustrations (I especially like the 3D perspectives), and photos about Ireland and it's many points of interest. I really enjoyed the information and suggestions as we drove around the Ring of Kerry and visited the Skellig Islands and West coast this time around. A great travel guide and well worth the price.
Book Review: Ireland Eyewitness Travel Guide Summary: 5 Stars
My friends and I are planning to go to Ireland and we didn't know how to begin planning for the trip until I received this book. It has been an invaluable aid. We are having so much fun deciding what we want to see from the descriptions of the counties, places to eat, the shopping, lodging, transportation, etc. It is just the kind of book a traveler needs. Our trip is going to be extremely well planned.
