Book Reviews of Integrative NutritionBook Review: This book changed my life! Summary: 5 Stars
My name is Jennifer, and I'm a sugar addict! And I never would've realized it if it weren't for this book. The chapter on cravings really opened my eyes to the ways I was eating and how it affects me and my life. After finishing it, I went to my fridge and pantry--and everything I found in there, even healthy stuff I purchased at Whole Foods and the local organic market, were loaded with sugar! I couldn't believe it! Yogurt with 32 grams of sugar! Cereal with 25 grams of sugar! It's no wonder I was so high-strung and never able to concentrate or even sit still for a short period of time. I always thought I just had a minor case of Attention Deficit Disorder, but it turns out, no, I was just on a continuous sugar high! So I decided to take control of my sugar intake. Now, I read the packages of everything I buy, and do my best not to purchase anything with more than 10 grams of sugar, 5 or less is my goal though.
This book will make you take a good look at yourself and the way you're eating. It has awesome exercises at the end of each chapter that will help you see your eating habits and how they affect you. One of the first few chapters had an exercise where you keep track of what you eat for a couple weeks and make note of how hungry you were after you were finished eating and how hungry you were 2 hours later and it turns out, chicken is one of the only things that keeps me full for long periods of time. I was amazed!
Joshua Rosenthal's book Integrative Nutrition is the greatest present you could give yourself. It's the best present you can give anyone (I already gave a copy to my mom for her birthday!). If we all just stepped into our lives and the lives of those we care about and helped each other move in the healthy direction, then this country may have some hope after all.
Book Review: Good marketing tool Summary: 5 Stars
I consider this book a marketing tool for Mr. Joshua Rosenthal's "Institute for Integrative Nutrition", still I give it 5 stars because it is full of practical and useful information to keep you healthy. At moments the book can feel as if it is criticizing every diet or nutrition philosophy, but further reading reveals that it is not about trying to put other people or "schools" down as it is to find a middle ground. Rosenthal has some remarkable points that I would like to highlight: there is no single diet that works for everyone, eating healthy is not a religion and is not going to save your soul, every once in a while eating something unhealthy can be beneficial. One idea that I found extremely interesting and probably the most important one is the concept of primary and secondary food. I don't want to spoil the book for you, but this single concept I believe is probably the most important one to keep you healthy! It is interesting to read about this coming from a nutritionist.
The book is fun to read, if you are new to healthy eating this book will cover a lot of basic ground, if you have been reading and learning about healthy life styles this book will probably confirm a lot of the things that you already know and that you are doing. Maybe there is not a lot of new information for the initiated, but there will be some very good arguments and discussions that will equip you better to make more sound decisions about what and how to eat.
The book includes different exercises at the end of each chapter, I just did a couple but they proved to be very effective and revealing. I can say this is a very modern and refreshing way of looking at healthy eating and living.
Book Review: A Real annd Refreshing Approach to Nutrition! Summary: 5 Stars
Integrative Nutrition is a book that offers a real approach to nutrition. Instead of counting calories and grams of fat, this book goes beyond reducing food to numbers and instead treats food as a whole, living, source of nourishment for body, mind, and spirit. In becoming aware of the sacred soul of food and the powerful role it plays in nourishing every aspect of ourselves, we learn more about our own wholstic selves and how our eating habits reflect our awareness of our own selves. This is also a book that includes the consumers in on the facts behind where their food comes from and how it is being produced. Important information that the food industries and governmental entities don't want you to be aware of is all brought to light. The best part of all is that Integrative Nutrition teaches you how to think and choose for yourself when it comes to food and health, bringing the power of health back into your own hands. I recommend this book to all of my clients and have them refer to it for knowledge and also easy to implement recipes. - Jessica Wagner, Health Counselor and Whole Food Therapist, Co-Founder of Mindful Healing Spa & Integrative Health Center, Bethesda, MD
Book Review: Eye opening and life changing Summary: 5 Stars
Integrative Nutrition is the only book I know that brings together all aspects of health and happiness and really explains the importance of each one of them in achieving optimum health and loving our lives.
I've spent years wondering why some diets worked for me at certain times in my life and why some never did. I've always wondered why sometimes it has seemed so easy to be healthy and, at other times, so much more difficult. Integrative Nutrition has helped me to finally understand that all aspects of my life (my diet, exercise, relationships, spirituality and my career) are crucial components to the big picture of my health and happiness.
Thank you, Joshua, for opening my eyes and for helping us all to feel better, know ourselves better and live lives that we really love!
