Book Review: Titanic Book Summary: 5 Stars
My Son Loves anything to do with Titanic and thought this was a great Book.
Book Review: Good, but not great. Perspectives seem off, no deck plans. Summary: 4 Stars
The paintings are wonderful, but too limited. I would like to see more of the ship than one side of it. The book should have showed detailed deck plans (perhaps along the lines as those available thru New Steamship Consultants), and more paintings of the ship's interior spaces that are usually never seen, particularly the engine spaces. Also, detailed drawings of how the steam system worked to propel the boat would have also been very valuable. I think the book lacks a lot of substance. Moreover, the publishers made no effort to counteract the effect of full page spreads passing through the binding; thus, portions of the paintings are completely lost to view. Additionally, the book should have showed the much discussed watertight bulkheads, and how the boat filled with water in such a way so as to counteract their effectiveness, and to ultimately defeat their purpose. I hope the author revises the book along these lines. In that case, I would buy it again.
Book Review: Invaluable interior drawings Summary: 4 Stars
This book has the most outstanding paintings of the Titanic and it's interiors. A good comparison between first and third class, revealing the life of two families on board. The paintings are immaculate and detail and attention are visible. The paintings are few though and tease the reader. Very little interior is ever seen of Titanic and once it's exposed, as in this book, it teases you with the most outstanding paintings. The book describes the Carter family, when a cutaway is done on B deck it reveals cabins B84-82-78-76-(72). From the book you read that the Carter family had a dog, and in one of the cabins a dog is seen, missleading the reader that the Carters were in those two staterooms. Qite actually the Carter cabins were further aft, numbers B96-98. Otherwise the book is most pleasing.
Book Review: Giant Cut-away Book Summary: 4 Stars
It was a very interesting book. As the title indicates, it shows numerous cut-away pictures of the inside of the Titanic. It was nice to see where dining rooms, sitting rooms, the gym, the pool, etc were in relation to each other and the cabins and state rooms of the passengers. Good book for middle school aged children.
