INKHEART
Have you ever read a book that you wanted to just seep right through the words and felt like you could? Have you ever been able to taste the excitement and feel the danger? Have you ever wanted to take a break from the real world? Well, in Inkheart you can! Cornelia Funke has a way with words that will sway you into the story and teach you to love and live as if there was no tomorrow. Her stories will take you on a journey you won't soon forget!
The characters seem like they are real living, breathing people. Mo is a book binder with a mysteriously magical voice. Meggie is Mo's daughter, and has a knack for trouble. Dustfinger is a fire eater, he can make fire dance among many other ticks. Fraid is trying to learn from Dustfinger and has taken a liking to Meggie, and Elinor is a book collector who is very strict. All of these characters thrown together make this an interesting story.
Inkheart's over all theme is survival. Meggie gets herself and Mo into trouble when she defies Mo's rules. Meggie also puts herself into a lot of danger. Dustfinger and Fraid have to survive in this world and stay away from Capricorn, and Mo moves a lot to keep Meggie safe.
The setting of the book is totally believable. I think that it it's a great setting because it ties this book to the real world. Even with all the fantasy in this book you can still believe it's really happening. It's one of the greatest settings in any book of all time.
Finally, this book is great for any one, of any age, of any size! Young and old! Have it read to you, read it to someone else, or just read it to yourself! The characters are so life like that you can put yourself in their place. The setting will take you to the rolling hills of Italy. You'll also see how the charters survive the trouble that comes there way. This book will take you into the inkworld for awhile and tell the wonderful story of ~Inkheart~

Book Review: A Book for Bibliophiles
Summary: 5 Stars

Years ago, my mom bought me a copy of Cornelia Funke's THE THIEF LORD. Maybe I was too young, or maybe it wouldn't appeal to me even now, but for whatever reason I decided Funke just wasn't for me.

But Inkheart's cover and description were irresistible. How could I NOT buy it?

I'm glad I did. Because this book, from the plot to the characters to the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, is a book for book lovers. It's a story about a man with an extraodinary talent -- he can read objects and even characters out of books -- and it's about his daughter, Meggie (though what twelve-year-old would honestly still go by "Meggie" and not "Meg" or "Megan" is beyond me) who finds herself swept into the dangerous legacy of it all.

Because years ago, when her father was reading a book to her mother, something strange happened. Meggie's mother disappeared. And in her place were a host of dangerous and mysterious characters -- characters from the book Inkheart. Capricorn, a deadly villain who is just as ready to wreak havoc in Meggie's world as in his own; Basta, Capricorn's faithful crony; and Dustfinger the fire-lover are all in the wrong story now. And while Capricorn and Basta are quite content to stay in Meggie's story, Dustfinger will do almost anything to get back to his own. Even if his story does not have a happy ending.

Enter into the story Fenoglio, Inkheart's author, and Elinor, Meggie's book-collector/book fanatic aunt, not to mention a whole lot of danger. Capricorn wants Meggie's father, or rather, he wants his abilities, and in a world where words are deadlier than swords, Meggie has to find a way -- with Fenoglio's help -- to make sure their story ends well.

Highly recommended.

Book Review: This book is perfect for all ages! I LOVED it!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Meggie brushed her fair hair from her face, and looked out her window. It was a late, rainy night and she couldn't sleep. Not even her beloved books could carry her into the world of dreams. Then she saw someone out her window. It seemed to be a young man, maybe 30, standing with his arms crossed in the freezing rain. She thought she saw him look up at her, then away again. It couldn't be a burglar. He would've broken in by now, and who would bother stealing from a simple book-binder and his 12 year-old daughter? Meggie ran from her room, and flew down the hall to tell her father. Little did she know, tonight was the night her life would change forever.
Meggie's father, Mo, is an ordinary bookbinder, who happens to excel in his trade. Or so it seems. Mo has an extraordinary secret; He can read characters straight from their books! Nine years ago, Mo read his wife, and two cats into the book Inkheart. What comes out isn't good at all! Now the evil Capricorn, originally the villain from Inkheart, and his henchman Basta after his incredible abilities, Mo is forced into hiding along with his daughter Meggie.
Dustfinger, the other character to appear from Inkheart's magical pages is merely a fire-eater. Dustfinger arrives on rainy night to warn Mo that Capricorn is on the move once again, and after him. Mo, Meggie, and Dustfinger retreat to Aunt Elinor's house, pretending to be there merely to rebind some of her many books. But they aren't there for long! Mo is taken hostage by Capricorn! What will Meggie do without her beloved father? Will Meggie be able to save him, with the help of Elinor and Dustfinger? Read Cornelia Funke's Inkheart to find out!

Book Review: Staggeringly Imaginative
Summary: 5 Stars

There are a few things that one needs to know before choosing this book.

This is the begining of a extremely ambitious and intricately detailed trilogy, meaning this is not a casual light read or a short one. This is not a book to read quickly, a certain investment of time is required of the reader. Not only beause of the page count, but also because of the sheer volume of information those pages contain. There is a great deal of exposition, atmospheric discription, back story and emotional reactions, which throws the pacing off in a lot of places. But it's very much worth hanging in there, as long as the reader keeps in mind what a huge job this novel has. It sets the frame work for a story that is dizzyingly vast and complicated. I admit to putting Inkheart down a couple of times, mostly beause I couldn't keep track of what was happening and needed time to reorder my brain. It never took long to pick back it back up though. The seoond half moves much smoother, and the pay off is huge. The conclusion sets up book two Inkspell beautifully. It made me glad I got both books at once cause I needed to know what happend next. if ypu like Epic story telling then this is an amazing work, it speaks to the heart of those with a passion for the fantasy genre, and echoes the feelings of those who find true joy in reading.

Book Review: Inkheart
Summary: 5 Stars

Inkheart, a book that is now being made into a movie, is a wonderful story that leads your mind wandering into a world of magic. It all started one night in a big house full of books when the whispering wind kept Meggie, the girl who would soon learn the secrets of her mother and father, awake. She couldn't sleep, so she went to her window to light some candles so she could read and that's when it began. As she went to her window, she saw a man named Dustfinger who didn't belong in this world but belonged in a different world.
As soon as Mo, her father, saw Dustfinger he became secretive. When Meggie heard her father say Dustfinger's name she felt as if she knew that name but couldn't remember where she had heard it. Mo talked to him as an old friend but Meggie felt that he would cause trouble and didn't like him. This little visit caused a connection with magic and . . . trouble. If you want to know what kind of trouble I'm talking about read this book and join Meggie in a quest in Inkheart.
Written by the third most popular children's writer, Cornelia Funke, who, once again, proves that her imagination can be powerful. Inkheart is an exciting book with a wonderful plot and characters, from the secretive Mo to the sinful Capricorn. If you like Harry Potter, you'll like this book which I rate, on a scale of 1 to 10, is a big 10.
