Book Review: Oh, great! Now I'M paranoid!

Scott Sigler's, INFECTED, has been described as a must read, for Stephen King fans. Well, I've always been a King fan, but have to admit I had to put 'CELL' down, without completing it, due to the bloody mayhem that just seemed like gratuitous violence, with little believability. Not so, with INFECTED. From the moment I picked up this book, I hated to put it down, suffering serious sleep deprivation over the course of two nights---and this type of horror/thriller, with blood oozing off of every page is NOT typically my genre. So, I'm quite confident in saying, that if it IS your type of read, you might want to call in sick and, devour it all in one day, for ultimate enjoyment. Be warned, you may be calling in sick the following day, too, as you hunt for your Pink Floyd t-shirt, with the triangle logo, because it's suddenly bothering you---and, you'll want to closely monitor those little chigger bites that, up until now, have only been mildly annoying. You'll probably want to put the kitchen utensils under lock-and-key, too,---just in case.
Yes, Sigler's creativity has taken the very familiar theme of alien invasion to a new level, when tiny alien seeds begin impregnating the skin of unsuspecting victims, turning them into psychotic, homicidal maniacs. As these little invaders develop, they begin to command the victims. Oh, and just wait until you read about the eyes. Eww! Their ultimate goal is not to be human, best-friend's-forever, either.
I thoroughly enjoyed the cast of characters: Perry Dawsey, the ex-football star, fighting off one of those demon seeds; Margaret Montoya, the CDC epidemiologist; and CIA agent Dew Phillips. The development of these characters was well drawn out, particularly with Dawsey. His early life experiences, and disappointments, certainly set him up for being stoic and, taking-it-on-the-chin, until it was too late---or was it? The adrenaline pumping race was on to find out.
Be aware that this is an adult read, with grotesque violence, blood and gore, throughout. There is also quite a bit of profanity and general creepiness, that would not be fitting for young folks, or the faint of heart. You must be the appropriate audience and prepare yourself for the, HORROR of INFECTED, before you can safely dive in. If you meet those requirements, fasten your seat-belts and enjoy the ride!
