TOOT & PUDDLE: I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is a perfect holiday read, featuring the beloved characters of Toot and Puddle. This time, when Toot goes away for a family reunion in Scotland, he sends Puddle a postcard promising to be home in time for Christmas. But when Toot reaches Boston, a sudden snowstorm may keep him from getting home for the holidays. Will Puddle's lucky nut, a gift from Great-Great-Aunt Peg be the key to getting home?
Cute charming illustrations accompany this fun story as Toot struggles to get home in time, and with time running out, and the to-do list too big, Puddles and Tulip are forced to start the decorating without their friend. I especially loved the pictures of Tulip and Puddle's Christmas preparations and Toot struggling to reach home in time for the holidays. This is one book I'll be adding to the holiday stack for years to come.
Holly Hobbie has worked as an artist for more than thirty years and is the author of seven previous and highly acclaimed Toot & Puddle picture books, as well as an illustrated memoir, The Art of Holly Hobbie. The mother of grown children, she lives with her husband in Conway, Massachusetts.

Book Review: magic, friendship and anticipation of Christmas Summary: 5 Stars
As Puddle and Tulip bake and decorate in anticipation of Christmas, their good friend Toot is at a family reunion far away. Alas, a big winter storm threatens to keep Toot from getting home for the holiday. But a magical object, and a mysterious sleigh driver get Toot home, safe and sound. The illustrations in this Holly Hobbie book are enchanting---see the sheep singing carols in the snowstorm, the brownstones in the city, covered with snow and Puddle shoveling snow by moonlight....a very satisfying little Christmas story!
Book Review: Great friendship-togetherness Christmas story Summary: 5 Stars
This is the cutest Children's Christmas book that I have ever read!
Having family and friends together is important to everyone, especially friends Toot & Puddle. With one visiting a great-great-aunt in Edinburgh and the other home in Boston, only a miracle can bring them together in time for Christmas.
This is the perfect snuggle read for anytime. The pictures and story will make you smile and be full of delight. I highly recommend it!
Book Review: Poor Flow, Not Great for Bedtime Summary: 3 Stars
I picked this book up locally today, and read it to my son tonight.
I typically read to my son at bed time. He's almost 3 and loves Toot & Puddle. However, I found this book enjoyable (the illustrations are nice and the concept is good), but difficult for him to follow. The transition from one character to another is fine for an adult to follow, but I doubt my son picked up on the bounce right away. I personally felt that the two parts of the story had to have more depth to make the flow work. He did pick out who rescued Toot in the sleigh, though :)
In addition, kids of this age aren't great at filling out backstory. The story starts off with a postcard and a gift from Toot's great great aunt. The reader will have to explain to young children that Toot is across the ocean, far away from Puddle and will have to fly home to get there in time for Christmas. This is one of the few books I've seen that requires a read-through before you read it to your child.
In addition, while not all stories make great bedtime stories, this one is particularly poor in that area. It lacks the flow and cadence that would make it for appropriate bedtime reading.
If it did not have Toot and Puddle in it, I doubt it would have held his interest.
