Book Reviews of I Spy Spooky Night: A Book of Picture Riddles

Book Review: Striped Cat!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Thank you to the earlier reviewers.... I (as well as my husband, father, and mother--not to mention my five year old!!) have been going CRAZY looking for the striped cat!!!

These books are just incredible--my son is well on his way to collecting ALL of them! And, we already have ALL of the CD-Rom games--he's solved them all several times. These are the perfect books (and software) for kids--and has occupied more than a few hours of my time since I discovered them. Even my 18 year old daughter has been challenged and frustrated by these books! There's not much out there that can entertain (or drive crazy) both kids and adults.

There are small differences in the books and software--some kids like the spooky motif of this book--while other kids seem to prefer the space or school motifs--but, all-in-all, any of these books and software are WELL worth the $$ you put into them. Enjoy!!! (Dang that striped cat! LOL)

Book Review: C@n you find the ampersand in +his line?
Summary: 5 Stars

The "I Spy" series probably rates in the Top 10 of favorite books to check out from the library. It's whisk in--Stamp back out! That fast! At this time of year, "Spooky Night" is really big. One thing to note: This book does not leave with one child--it leaves with a gang. They study the pictures en masse. It's a great group effort finding all the objects.

"Picture riddles fill this book;
Turn the pages! Take a look!

Use your mind, use your eye;
Read the riddles--play I SPY!"

The above instructions are on the Table of Contents. Finding the objects is such a kick! What adds to the trickiness is the number of intriguing items not on the list. "But I want them to be on the list because I found them!"

Special thanks goes to Walter Wick for his fun, tricky photography!

A book for all ages!

Book Review: Best In The Series
Summary: 5 Stars

Set in a scary (and really neat!) Victorian house in the course of one dark night, the readers playing I Spy must find a number of hidden objects concealed among creepy rooms full of a very odd assortment of items. Trek boldly thru a mad scientist's lab, a haunted library, a Gothic graveyard and a dozen other locales in order to make it through to sunup. Maybe just a little too spooky for the youngest of I-Spyers but a hit for slightly older pre-schoolers and series fans of all ages. One of those delightful books where you always find something cool you missed the last thousand times you played I Spy in this volume. If you're like me, you'll instantly be hooked on an I Spy game in an extremely atmospheric setting that's just plain awesome on its own.

Book Review: Austria needs help!
Summary: 5 Stars

Through friends in the US we got to know the great I spy books, but unfortunately we are not that perfect in English. Could someone explain to us what "birdies of brass" are? We don't even know what to look for! And what about the "ostrich beak"? Does that really meen the beak of an ostrich or is there a completely different meening of it when these two words are combined? And: could anyone give us a hint where the bat on page 18/19 is?
To help the person who looks for the third spring on page 16/17:
we assume that you are looking for the one on page 16 on the very edge where the books are (left from the wishbone)!

Book Review: Enjoyable with all ages, put on your glasses!
Summary: 5 Stars

From big "kids" to tiny tots (even my 2 year old finds the items we seek), everyone will love this I Spy version. The pages are creepy, crawly, yet full of delightful clues and items that one doesn't expect. Be sure to look for the teeny skeleton in each set.....Good light and reading glasses are recommended for the older set, but the kids seem to find the most! This I Spy was a valued member of our I Spy collection, which I put out not just at Halloween time, but bring out all year round
