Book Reviews of I Know Why the Caged Bird SingsBook Review: This is a great book Summary: 5 Stars
I first read this when i was 11 and i didnt understand anything. but i recently read it again and LOVE it. this is the autobiography of marguerite, called maya by her brother Bailey and called Ritie by her other relatives. the first part of the book is about when she lives with her grandmother in the segragated Stamps, Arkanas. the second part is when she goes to California to live with her mom. maya angelou is a great author. After you read this book, you have to read the sequel, (i forgot the name) about how she raises the son she has at the end of this book. if u like books about racism and segregation, you should read this. but even if you just like reading books about teenage life, u should read this. ~~THIS IS A GREAT BOOK~~
Book Review: The Caged Bird Is Now Free Summary: 5 Stars
Humour. Satire. Fear. Ape. Racism. Consoling. A few words to describe the semi-autobiographical poignant work Angelou produced with 'I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings'. Marguite, was an innocent, a felsh of bieng with a free spirit, who went against the odds at various points in life. The sisterly love for her brother was undying and was revealed. The tale reflects the time period so well, and opens our (white suburbia) mind to a dimension unknown to us. Spoken to us only through rhyme, prose and novel. Maya expresses her life with dignity; a word thatc can freely be associated with Maya and Momma. I look so forward to the continuing saga that this liberated novelist has penned for the world.
Book Review: Misleading Warnings Summary: 5 Stars
Going into my freshman year of high school and my first honors english class I was told by my church to beware of the evil book they would force me to read-- I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
It was protested because of the vivid picture painted of her sexual abuse.
After reading it I can only shake my head at the people who warned me of this book. By refusing to read it because of something horrible happening to someone you fail to really realise that things of that nature happen.
Reading this book was an eyeopener to me-- to understand just where people like Maya come from. I was riveted throughout this book. Easily it is one of the better books I've read.
Book Review: A better understanding Summary: 5 Stars
Hi, i am from Melbourne Australia. I am 19 years old, when i read 'I know why the caged bird sings' as one of my books for year 12. It discribed to me how the African Americans felt about, White people and the discrimmination there was between white and black people. Dr Maya Angelou, discribed her experience very well. She discribed in detail what she thought and how she felt, i could piture the scene in my head. Especially the shop her and Baily lived in, and how the sun set over the store. It was a grate experience for me, it has tought me a lot about the African American history. Dr Angelou inspired me as well as my class, and from then on, i have been reading all her books.
Book Review: Truely a great book on her life. Summary: 5 Stars
I remember reading this book when I was 10 on my own, and have never forgot it. I felt so many emotions while reading the: from sorrow to joy, from horror to surprise. It really and truely is a great book. It is understandable that a number of students will find it boring. Any book can seem boring when it is being read for homework. This book may also seem to jump around, and have no plot to some people; but it is about her life. It is non-fiction. It let's people see what went on while she was growing up. A vivid collecton of her memories. I highley recommend the book for anyone over 14. Younger than that, you need to have a high school level of reading comprehesion.
