Book Reviews of I Know Why the Caged Bird SingsBook Review: An amazing book by an amazing writer Summary: 5 Stars
I read the reviews from other people conserning this book, one person deamed it 'racist' another that, Dr. Maya Angelou was 'sick' for including the story of her rape ordeal. I was ultimatly saddened by these comments. This book is simply outstanding, written with so much realism, the characters literally jump of the page. This woman is one of the most extraordinary writers to come out of America. To describe ths novel as 'sick' and 'racist' is a childish and immoral thing to say. I suggest these two reviewers stick to reading childrens books, it is obvious you have no understanding of the english language, and good literature as a whole. 'I know why the caged bird sings', stands as one of the most important books of the twentieth century, a testimant to a truly gifted idividual, who has overcome the heartache and trauma in her life, to triumph.
Book Review: A breakthrough book on childhood sexual abuse and survival Summary: 5 Stars
Maya Angelou is always an inspiration to me. She has risen above the painful circumstances of her childhood which at it's worst led her to stop talking entirely. Now she speaks with power. I look up to her, that I may also break through my silence, and speak without fear. Her life and her strength give me hope. I had a very similar experience of childhood sexual abuse and I also reacted by stopping talking. I think it is amazing that Maya Angelou speaks with such beauty and power now...it's so hopeful! I loved reading about the healing relationship she had with her teacher, and her love of reading and writing. I also enjoyed reading about the deep bond that she shares with her brother.
Maya Angelou is an amazing poet, an incredible woman, and an inspiration in all that she does.
Book Review: Unforgettable Summary: 5 Stars
Maya Angelou brings to life an era that cannot and must not be forgotten. It was not that long ago in America that blacks were seen as another, inferior nation that was taught, explicitly and implicitly, to know its place. Anyone who wishes to understand the underpinnings of the civil rights movement of the 20th century, as well as African Americans' continued struggle for equality today, should read this book.
I found it particularly noteworthy that Angelou and her family in the rural South of the 1930s employed a very strong defense mechanism: They concluded that white people were the ones who were awkward, strange, inferior, possibly not even human. This was the only way for them to survive day to day.
This is a must read for adults and teenagers alike.
Book Review: I think this is just a great book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very beautiful book with lots of hidden meanings in it. I loved reading it because it was like you were living her life, good times and all, and when she cried, you cried, when she laughed, you laughed with her. it's a book that i think everyone could relate to in some way or another. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading and can relate to a great writer. I loved the ending. it seems that everyone remembers the ending, so it leaves you with a great quoter, "you don't have to think about doing the right thing. if you're for the right thing, then you'll do it without thinking." though it was meant a differnt way in the book, anyone can change it to suit them and relate to it. you'll find that it's right in every aspect.
Book Review: This is an inspiring book Summary: 5 Stars
Ok to all those people who said this book was just crap think again this is a marvelous book for people who like to read and she is not talking about racisim she is talking about her childhood and how it influenced her to write books and poems she has out now She (Marguerite aka Maya)is a beautiful and courageous woman She was molested or (raped) by her father and she didnt say a thing for two years cause she thought that she had something to do with the death of her father but she is not racist Maya Angelou is my role model and she is a great one at that so people read the book over and get more deep in to it The reason you said it was boring was because you probably wasnt reading it Please give her credit though --Much Love--
