Book Reviews of Hydrogen Peroxide: Medical MiracleBook Review: An Oxygenated Body May Be Proof Against Most Diseases Summary: 3 Stars
One of the underlying drives to attain vibrant health that is denied by conventional medical means is an understandable reluctance to admit that there is a huge gap between what medical doctors fail to deliver and what naturalists often do deliver. The current hot button issue in natural medicine is the role that oxygen plays in boosting the body's immune system. In HYDROGEN PEROXIDE: MEDICAL MIRACLE, William Campbell Douglass writes his book with the focus on the last word--"miracle." Even in the world of charlatanism, the use of that word is often omitted. It is unfortunate that Douglass went for the verbal overkill since much of his text is an honest and competent attempt to educate the public about how oxygen can rejuvenate the body. Douglass begins with a straightforward discussion of the dual role that oxygen plays. He notes that oxygen is the great destroyer on the molecular level, while paradoxically its overabundance inhibits the growth and spread of a host of diseases that range from cancer to diabetes to acid reflux. The majority of his text is written for the layman. Part of the problem that a layman may have in comprehending Douglass's more subtle points is that like most scientists whose backgrounds lie more in science than in a deft ability to write clear prose, much of his book needs the firm hand of editor who knows how to unmuddle some muddled prose. Still, one gets the sense that Douglass knows a great deal about the role that hydrogen peroxide plays in maintaining good health. He writes that food grade hydrogen peroxide can be administered in two ways--intravenously and orally. He wisely adds that most potential users would probably opt for the oral means of adding a few drops to several ounces of distilled water. Unfortunately, he glosses over the little issue of drinking the solution on an empty stomach. Most users would find it difficult to do so three times a day without incurring the potentially unpleasant side effects of combining hydrogen peroxide with food in the stomach. Still, Douglass's text is a welcome addition to the bookshelves of the health conscious who want to learn of a way to obtain optimal health at a low cost and with a high record of success. Recommended.
Book Review: Effective periodontal treatment Summary: 3 Stars
Recently I developed periodontal disease around my rear molars in an area where previously impacted wisdom teeth that had been removed caused damage to the molars below the gum line. This left pockets that collected food particles and eventually led to a periodontal infection that was painful at times. My dentist referred me to a periodontist who recommended packing antibiotics below my gum line. Unfortunately, the periodontist was not sure that the treatment would succeed and he thought the affected teeth would likely have to be extracted. Before reading his book I had read some of Dr. Douglass' claims for hydrogen peroxide. I was familiar with hydrogen peroxide from the pulp and paper industry, where as a chemical engineer I have used it in bleaching pulp as an environmentally friendly alternate to chlorine bleach. Fearing that I had little to loose, I decided to try hydrogen peroxide. Thinking about how to get it below the gum line into the infected area, I decided to try a water-pic (which I later read about in Dr. Douglasses' book). I performed the treatment twice daily for the first two weeks, then nightly for three weeks, thereafter intermittently. My dentist was amazed that I was able to cure such a bad infection. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has tried this method, whether your results were successful or not. Alternative medicine is risky and I urge anyone experimenting with it to do enough research to determine if what you are considering is safe and if better conventional treatments exist.
Book Review: FLAWED BUT STILL USEFUL Summary: 3 Stars
Although I am pleased that the author has taken the trouble to write this book to publicize the benefits of hydrogen peroxide, this book is not well written or edited. First of all, the blurb on the back cover (of my copy at least) makes no grammatical sense whatsoever and could have done with some proofreading. The author does not want to commit himself on whether H2O2 can be taken orally, but does recommend it as a mouthwash instead of using toothpaste. But he doesn't discuss the factor of metal teeth fillings and that H2O2 might corrode these and cause a person to swallow a heavy dose of heavy metal pollutants in the process. As far as taking it orally is concerned, other researchers and alternative healers recommend starting a strong anti-oxidant cocktail a couple of days before one starts oral ingestion of this miracle substance, in the form of supplements or green tea. That makes perfect sense and the author ought to have addressed this subject. This book seems to have been put together without proper editing from the author's newsletter, but does contain other valuable sources of information like a worldwide list of physicians using H2O2 therapy, therapeutic uses of peroxide, metabolic and physiological effects of peroxide healing, an extensive bibliography and an index. I recommend that Dr. Campbell Douglas issues a second edition in which the above flaws are eliminated and that is properly edited and proofread. Until such time, this book is still useful.
Book Review: Hydrogen Peroxide Summary: 3 Stars
After reading the book by William Campbell Douglas, I'm still not sure whether I should use hydrogen peroxide by taking it orally. Dr. Douglas can't tell you to use it without becoming libel. He does give you names of Doctors who practice alternative medicene and tells of the wonderous cures by injecting the patient with hydrogen peroxide. He also warns of using hydrogen peroxide orally and the dangers of doing so. If you have a health condition that warrants taking a chance, then he provides some guidelines for mixing and drinking hydrogen peroxide to provide your body with more oxygen but he doesn't advise doing doing this although a lot of his friends do take it orally. If this is confusing, then, the book is too.
Book Review: Hydrogen Peroxide: Medical Miracle Summary: 3 Stars
This book was enlightening for the Medical Professional, but not for the everyday person that is more interested to use a known product such as Hydrogen Peroxide on their own without a doctor or hospital visit in order to use it for health reasons. It did not go into detail for the Self Help person to be able to use it, without a Professional Doctor's order, which would be very hard to request from one that would not be current on this product.
