Book Reviews of Hunter's Planet (Aliens Vs. Predator, Book 2)Book Review: Not good but not bad either... Summary: 3 Stars
I just finished reading this book and in my opinion it's so-so. It just didn't grab my attention like the first book, Prey did. Some characters were pretty interesting like the Android Attila and the Predator by the name of Bakuub. But the book doesn't really elaborate a whole lot on their personas. It probably would have been interesting if the author explained Attila's past a bit more. Also, I couldn't help but notice the lack of action and the appearances of both the Aliens and Predators. I mean there are a few pages in the book that show the Predators side of the story but when it came to the Xenomorphs there was hardly any mention of them except if you were referring to the "hybrids" that make an appearance in this story. But really the biggest thing that bothers me about this book is how exactly does it fit in the whole continuity of the AVP trilogy. It just doesn't line up; and if you ever read the third book you will know what I am talking about. Overall I give three stars...It's not good, it's not bad. There were a few typos here and there but overall it's an entertaining read. You can probably finish the book in a day or so.
Book Review: Good author, bad storyline Summary: 3 Stars
Now don't get me wrong, the book was pretty good. It had a decent storyline. But here's my problems with it:1. It just starts here off back in humanity with a few brief flashbacks to her days as a predator. 2. In the fight with Shorty, she wins only with the help of the android. This is the moment all of her flashbacks and memories with the predators have been building up to. She should've won against Shorty by herself, not with some lame secret helper. 3. My biggest problem: It doesn't fit into the storyline of the Aliens Vs. Predator books. S. D. Perry wrote "Prey" and "War". "War" came out after this novel, but I tend to think the author of the original novel would be correct with his storyline. Why do I say that it doesn't fit? Shorty dies in BOTH this novel and "War". "War" supposedly takes place before this one. How does Shorty die twice? It seems almost as if the author of this book didn't collaborate with the authors of the first when writing a sequel. Therefore, when the actual sequel came out, the storyline of the entire series just falls apart.
Book Review: A sequal that didn't live up to the original. Summary: 3 Stars
This book is a continuation of the story started in "Aliens vs. Predator: Prey" But unfortunately the author tried to cram to much into the number of pages in the book. We get some interesting insights into what it was like for Machiko to run with a pack of Preditors for several years. The story then bottoms out for a while and appears to be dying quickly. The author then presents us with the situation of the Aliens are being upgraded by humans to be used as weapons. The author gets Machiko to the planet where this is happening, from there the story such as it is does improve a good deal. The Preditor's show up and Machiko is now able to communicate with because of her robotic sparing partner's unnoticed "upgrades," where she explains the problem and works to clean it up with the help of the Predator's. All in all its a middle of the road read. If you really enjoyed the first book about Machiko its probably worth reading just toget the full story such as it is. But other than that it was pretty predictable.
Book Review: Alternate Dimensions Summary: 3 Stars
I hope the Perrys find the guy who wrote Hunters Planet and challenge him to a Duel of the Claws. #1 the queen capture mission is told two different ways #2 Naguchi kills Shorty TWICE. actually if you want to get into specifics she only kills him once (the other with the help of her synthetic counterpart). After reading Prey, Hunters Planet, and War, in that order I found myself waiting for Naguchi to wake up like it was all a flashback dream. To my dissapointment i got to page 210 which was the next page over after AVP: WAR was ended.
Book Review: Disappointed, but not bad Summary: 3 Stars
Its true what they say, the first one is always the best one. This book wasn't bad at all, but I was disappointed. In AvP: Prey(book 1) the authors give you a point of view on the Predators side. Here, it's not the case. It kinda goes back to the movies and only shows you or lets you know what the humans are doing, thinking, etc. There were a few small details in this book that I liked, and thought that was kool. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to know what happens to Noguchi after reading book 1.
