Book Reviews of Hunter's Planet (Aliens Vs. Predator, Book 2)Book Review: My favorite book ( aint i a softie ) Summary: 5 Stars
Damn it this is just as good as Prey. This book rocks
Book Review: AVP Summary: 4 Stars
In "Prey," what people fail to realize is that all if the ideas for that book was taken directly from the best selling comic book series - the only difference? Lots of text. Mr. Perry is a great writer, but his daughter ISN'T. She writes EVERYTHING from a female point of view in her books (most notably Prey and the Resident Evil series) making men out to be drunken rapists, ect. I'm not a fan of that sort of writing, being a male, and I recommend buying the comic books if you want a nice read.In "Hunter's Planet" this book gives Machiko Naguchi more of a hard edge, giving the character more attitude and strength. That's the Machiko Naguchi Dark Horse comics want - not the silly loveable girl we've seen in Prey. The writer does an excellent job with the Predators, giving more depth and understanding to their race, as well as the Aliens. This book has an original storyline, with characters good enough for a major motion picture. I HIGHLY recommend Hunter's Planet for a good read! You won't be able to put this one down! *WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILER* One person who wrote a review, was maddened by the fact that Naguchi couldn't defeat her nemesis, another Predator by herself - instead, the Android assisted her. Where's the problem? It would be almost impossible for anyone to beat up a Predator in hand to hand combat, and if Dutch couldn't do it, a small Japanese woman isn't going to either! C'mon people lets be realistic about this!
Book Review: Mediocre Addition Summary: 4 Stars
I was not thoroughly pleased with this book. Though the beginning was very interesting and I loved to read about the Yautja culture and see the interaction between Machiko and the pack, after the first couple chapters, the book plunges into a mostly dry, boring read. There is a brief romanch between Machiko and Sanchez that would have been better off left out. I don't mind romances in a book like this, but not if they're so poorly written and completely cheesy.
Also, I really looked forward to the confrontation between Lar'nix'va(Shorty) and Machiko, but was very disappointed. Machiko practically chants 'Honor! Honor! Honor!' for the first 200 pages, but seems thoroughly satisfied with how the fight ended. I would have been annoyed. I thought it was really out of character.
Overall, Hunter's Planet is not a satisfying addition and unless you're completely ga-ga over AvP, then it's not really worth your time.
Book Review: The Hunter's Paradise... Summary: 4 Stars
Machiko Naguchi, once again working for the Company, has been asked to help with a little problem. It seems a planet, one used for big game hunting, has developed a tiny problem. The hunters are being killed by Aliens, the bug kind. Now Livermore Evanston, the owner of the world, wants Machiko, the one woman who knows how to handle them, to handle them.
But things are never as simple as they seem. For one thing, the human hunters are not the ONLY hunters who enjoy the big game on the planet.
And other problem seems to be the alien drones have been upgraded. As in thumbs, eyes and brains.
What's going on?
A great book, but for the fact that the Predators think of themselves as PREDATORS, instead of warriors, hunters or yautja. The terms, in other words, don't fit those used in the first book and force the reader to remember that he is reading a book and not listening in on the thoughts of the alien hunters.
Book Review: Wrong Consecutive (should be 3, not 2) Summary: 4 Stars
I've read the three novels in this trilogy but take issue with continuity. Hunter's Planet should be the last one you read!!! Why? Machiko Naguchi kills "Shorty" twice. Huh? Please believe me and read Hunter's last. You'll get more out of the story threads and development. Being a surviver, Machiko spends some time with the "Pack" as she dedicates herself to the Hunt. Dark Horse doesn't usually make mistakes as becomes so obvious in these 2 & 3 novels. So, read "War" after "Prey"and then, and ONLY then, read "Hunter's Planet. I believe you'll enjoy all three if you manage to "think Sanaa Lathan, pronounced Sa-NAA, "like Sinatra without the tra" as Machiko. Maybe I'll wander over to the DVD's and "Review" the AVP. Enjoy, it's just entertainment, right?
