Book Reviews of How to Find the Work You Love

Book Review: Book ignores reality and blames the victim
Summary: 1 Stars

I'll give this guy credit -he admits that the modern workplace is so stressful it's as bad as smoking. But does he admit the modern workplace is organized around the fear of poverty? No, and neither does he admit how right we are to fear poverty. Right now there are children living in homeless shelters or worse and white middle class people are deciding between paying for the prescription or the rent. In fact, our profound unhappiness with our workplaces and the continual drop in real wages for decades are just more things we can't and won't admit- because people like Boldt blame us for our fears.
From page 46, "The infantile tendency toward idle complaint has been give a certain intellectual validity...we may claim that the psychological wounds inflicted by our parents or the evils of the social system keep us from realizing what we want in life."
So suck it up, you survivors of incest and abuse. Stop whining about racism and the class system, you big babies. Those are problems you can solve by yourself in your spare time with the help of Mr Boldt's book.

I recently read an article (internet search workplace abuse if interested) stating that 95% of workplaces in the US are authoritarian. Many of us have work we like ok or even enjoy, but one wrong word and you have tripped the alarms and authority descends. You can be lazy, stupid, or incompetent and that's just fine, but question management and you find yourself on a watch list, probation or just harassed until you quit. Even worse, when people damaged by these authoritarian workplaces sought counseling, most therapists said, "You are the problem." (improper socialization, etc, etc.) I have a funny feeling Mr Boldt would be in that camp.
Please do give Mr Boldt one more penny for this claptrap.
