Book Reviews of How I Play GolfBook Review: TOP-NOTCH BOOK, TOP-NOTCH GUY! Summary: 5 Stars
I first learned of this book when Tiger appeared as a guest on Oprah. Tiger, as fans know, is a highly competititve man with sheer determination to win, win and win. He gives golf his best with all the heart, soul and passion for the game one could possibly muster.Although not everyone will fall into the same league as Tiger, the book appeals to every golfer from the novice to the expert. The book is well organized and contains memories of Tiger's best shots, first-hand tips and techniques, and to the book's credit, it contains beautiful photographs and illustrations. The illustrations, in particular, will appeal to every age group from teens through to adults. Tiger has written a book which is far more than an instructional guide to the game, but one that is truly motivational. Tiger is a true pro in every sense of the word. He has a knack for making it seem as if anyone can become a pro and that is is as effortless and simple as one, two, three. In reality, most amateur golfers will only dream of attaining the heights of Tiger Woods, and there is no question that despite his natural flair for the game, his accomplishments are a result of dedication, hard work and commitment. Not only does Tiger show his true professional colours throughout the book, he comes across as a straight-forward, down-to-Earth, "heck-of-a-nice-guy!" Golf enthusiasts will not want to miss this one; the book is most deserving of a five-star rating.
Book Review: The best instructional golf book by far Summary: 5 Stars
"How I Play Golf" is easily the best instructional golf book I've ever come across. As I read the book, I was amazed at both the amount of information and the level of detail. Yes, Tiger obviously covers the fundamentals (vital information!) but he also discusses numerous more advanced topics (like hitting stingers and chipping with a 3-wood). Golfers of all skill levels can benefit enormously from this book. However, if you're just starting out, buy this book. It could save you years of frustration on the course. For what it's worth, the (mild) review/criticisms of this book are weak. I don't see why Tiger was supposed to exclude (or re-write and re-photograph) great pieces previously included in issues of Golf Digest (which probably represents less than 1% of the book). To say this book is a rehash of old Golf Digest articles is flat-out wrong (I also subscribe to Golf Digest). I have both "How I Play Golf" and a couple of David Leadbetter's instructional books - including "The Fundamentals of Hogan". In my opinion, Tiger's book is more far more understandable and useful (but that's just my opinion). Is this Tiger's version of "Five Lessons"? No. Why re-invent the wheel. Besides, that was 1957. Different time, different equipment, different players, different courses, different approaches, different books. Both good, but different.
Book Review: A life saver! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is truly a life saver for me. I am a single Mom who decided to take up golf a year ago for fun, relaxation and to introduce my eight year old son to a sport we could play together. We both have golf lessons with the same golf pro and we have made steady progress. My son is now in Junior Golf and plays tournaments each week. My problem is he never listens to any advice I give him! Obviously I am no Earl Woods and there isn't any one around to take on that role except me, hence our golf games were becoming stressful, frustratinag and everything but relaxing! I now have Tiger by my side! My son can read the book, look at the photos and see exactly what he should be doing. The book is easy to read and contains precise instructions. The photos are superb and guide the reader through every step of the swing. Tiger's thoughts about the game are inspiring and insightful. A great book, a great read and a life saver for those of us who do not have a wealth of experience and wisdom about golf to fall back on. I know my game has improved since I obtained this book and so has my son's. Thank you Tiger.
Book Review: WOW!!!!! A masterpiece of a book Summary: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of Tiger now for many years. Truthfully he is the person who got me interested in the game, I have been golfing since May of 2001. I have become completely amazed by the game of golf now, and am always thinking about it. My girlfriend bought me this book to go along with my golf library. My first reaction to the book was WOW. I read the sections on putting and chipping so far and have skimmed the entire book. My first game after reading these sections was a ton better. I had read what Tiger was saying about grip and hand movement. I practiced it for only an hour one day on the green at a local country club. The next day I had the best short game of my life, on the course. I was visualzing and understanding what I needed to do. I have been taking lessons also now for about 2 months. Nothing can help your game more than practice itself. But once you have the right mind set and can see what you are supposed to do the game becomes much much eaiser. The pictures and writing in this book are excellent. I would recommend it to any golfer at any skill level.
Book Review: The way to play golf Summary: 5 Stars
Thirteen major championships, 59 PGA Tour Wins, $73,536,709 in PGA Career earnings, those are just a few of the things Tiger Woods has accomplished during his career as a professional golfer. His success has been based on the way he plays the game with sound fundamentals and a calm mind set. In How I Play Golf Tiger explains in detail how to prepare your body and mind to play golf before you ever step on the course. He gives his insights and routines for putting, chipping, driving, and escaping from bunkers. This book starts with the green and ends back at the tee the way he learned to play one step at a time.
Not many players can say they have a 2 handicap, even less can say they have a scratch handicap, only obout the top percent can say that they acomplished these feats at age 13. Tiger Woods was that age when he had a scratch handicap. My point is that Tiger is one of the best and the way he playes is the best of our time. If you want to learn to play like the top one percent buy this book.
