Book Reviews of How I Became a PirateBook Review: Cute, engaging, fun Summary: 5 Stars
Jeremy, probably feeling a little neglected on the beach, goes off with a band of pirates. He feels his parents won't mind as as long as he is back in time for soccer practice the next day. Initially, he finds this adventure to be exciting, liberating and great fun. Soon he realizes a pirate's life is not exactly ideal. There's no tucking in, no books, and no goodnight kisses! Of course, a storm must swoop down on the ship and the treasure is in peril. Jeremy has the ideal solution, which you'll love.
Book Review: Fabulous book for kids and their parents! Summary: 5 Stars
Once in a while, a great children's book comes along that gives you the parents as much joy in reading it as the kids get in hearing it. This is that kind of book! The artwork is incredible, and the story darling, completely couching the "moral" in good, clean hilarity. May your children give you plenty of "pirate kisses" after buying them this book.
I saw the cover of this book and had to bring it home. My children are getting to old for these books, but their Mama isn't!
Book Review: Fun read, great story Summary: 5 Stars
Don't be looking for life-long lessons or high morals in this book. It's just a fun, simple read for little ones who aspire to be pirates. My mom bought this book for my son and I kept it on the shelf a long time before reading it. Now it's on our regular rotation. We love it! It doesn't hurt that Momma reads the pirate part in "pirate speak." ;) It was a surprising gem in my son's library. (I especially love that the boy realizes how much he misses good-night kisses and bedtime stories.)
Book Review: A Great Book for Scurvy Dog Pirates Summary: 5 Stars
"Pirates have green teeth -- when they have any teeth at all..." With this first line my 3-year-old son's eyes got huge and he fell in love with this book -- and pirates. It continues to be a favorite. It is a cute story with excellent illustrations. My son loves to yell out: "Scurvy Dog", "Shiver me timbers" and "NO TUCKING" right along as we read the book. It has been the inspiration for much imaginative play. A fun book that I definitely recommend to pirates of all ages!
Book Review: A pirate's life for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I laugh out loud every time I so much as look at this book! These are some amazing illustrations from David Shannon, and Ms. Long tells a riveting story about a normal soccer-playing boy who up and joins a pirate crew in the most nonchalant manner imaginable. It is funny and wonderfully stereotyping of pirates (not that Disney didn't do enough) while still showing the downsides a young boy who still needs his mom might find. It is hilarious and innocent fun.
