Book Reviews of How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?Book Review: Little girls love dinosaurs too! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book for my daughter when she turned 2, and it has become her favorite book. The pictures are bright and engaging, and the rhyming text is so easy to remember that she "reads" me the book occasionally (even down to the dedications in the beginning). She loves it when her dad and I act out the silly things the dinosaurs do to get out of going to bed...and then she acts out the good things they do at the end (which means lots of kisses and hugs for us). Her favorite part is looking at all of the dinosaurs in the back of the book, and talking about what they're doing.
In the spirit of avoiding the cry of "one book more!" she only gets to hear it once per night, and then it's time for bed. She really looks forward to reading it and won't let us get away with skipping it, no matter how tired she is.
I highly recommend this book for a nightly bedtime story for any child -- boy or girl -- in their preschool years.
Book Review: We love this book ... all 11 of us! Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book to my preschool class almost every day before nap! I was never really interested in dinosaurs, but I love these guys! Mark Teague's illustrations are beautiful, captivating and funny, as is Jane Yolen's prose. From the crazy antics of one huge fellow who is demanding a piggy back ride before he goes off to sleep, to the sleepy head who is tucked lovingly into bed, the dinosaurs hold the interest of kids and adults alike. This book, along with the book, Sit, Truman!, are the first two books my 4 year old preschool class learned to "read"! They are so proud of themselves when they read and act out the pages for their friends. We love the entire How do Dinosaurs series, but this is by far our favorite. If you have little ones who love being silly, or who love dinosaurs, or who love to be read to, this book is one you should have in your collection. It will soon become a much loved bed time favorite.
Book Review: terrific illustrations, sweet bedtime story... and educational too! Summary: 5 Stars
What a great bedtime story! The illustrations are colorful and beautifully done. We notice new things each time we read it. The story follows a rhyming pattern that young children love.
I love the educational piece that identifies each dinosaur. Each page introduces a different type of dinosaur. The dinosaur name is identified somewhere on the page - it is done very cleverly though and in some cases, you have to look closely to find where the dinosaur's name is (on the bedroom door, on the headboard of the bed, etc)
On each page, a dinosaur is fighting the bedtime routine. Some pout and stamp their feet, some cry, and one even demands a piggy back ride (that one's our favorite). But in the end, the dinosaurs kiss their mommy and daddy good night, snuggle under the covers and go to sleep.
We love ending the day with this story!
Book Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
The book is a really nice. The artwork is fantastic. Some of the expressions the dinosaurs have are truly funny. There are also details within the illustrations that are fun. For instance there is a drawing on the wall of one of the dinosaurs' bedroom. It is of a stick T-Rex (baring its teeth) next to a house, with a little curl of smoke coming from the chimney. I don't know why, but it just made me laugh when I saw it. I guess that is what a little dinosaur would draw, right? I also like how each picture has "hidden" in it the name of the dinosaur.I have been reading it to my 8-month old, and he really responds to the pictures. This will be great for an older child, but it works for his age as well; the colors and shapes provided are very intriguing to new eyes like his. The story is cute as well. All in all, this is a really pleasant book.
Book Review: an extremely fun book for everyone Summary: 5 Stars
I picked up this book in a bookstore, and was laughing out loud as I read through it. On the one hand, this is actually a fun way to teach children proper behavior when it's time for them to go to bed, and it's a clever use of dinosaurs (kids favorite) to get the point across. On the other hand, the illustrations and text are humorous and also quite accurate. Kids will see themselves in these pictures, relate to how it feels to have to go to bed when they don't want to. Adults will just smile and laugh because the drawings really ARE that funny. I never expected in my life to see a dinosaur throwing a temper tantrum, but now that I have, I wonder why it took me so long. This is a great book, and I foresee it being one that kids will want to have read to them over and over again. And I think adults will have no problem in doing so.
