Book Reviews of How Do Dinosaurs Go To School?Book Review: A little more negative than most of this series Summary: 4 Stars
My 18 month old son loves this book. I'm not sure why, except that it has school buses in it. It doesn't seem like he would relate to most of it. And it seems that a school-aged kid who is old enough to need or understand the lessons about sitting still in class, not interrupting, not pushing on the playground, etc. isn't going to be fooled by putting that advice into a story.
Also, in contrast to the other books in the series, which are more balanced in what not to do and what you should do instead, this one is 90% negative. I'm not sure I will read it to my little boy as much as the others (if he will let me get away with that), because not only does it keep on with negative after negative, it is talking about SCHOOL in a negative way. It makes it seem as though school is a place where you can't do all sorts of things and there are only limited things you CAN do. I'm not sure why the book turned out this way, if there were too many good ideas for rhyming things you shouldn't do, or not enough of the right words to make more shoulds at the end.
In spite of all this, the illustrations are great and the rhyming is clever, as always. I'm not sure what "chalk talk" in the classroom is, but hopefully that is something the kids will know. Cute book - kids always love books about school. And I think my son probably likes this one because he loves the others in the series so much!
Book Review: Great visuals, mediocre writing Summary: 4 Stars
My two-and-half-year-old daughter loves these "How-To" dinosaur books. How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? was the first one I got for her, which she was hooked on and triggered me to buy the other three in the series (big format ones). The book is very educational and she can memorize and articulate all the 10 dinosaurs names provided in the book. However, while the illustrations are highly entertaining to a toddler, the language, like that in the other books in the series, is quite lackluster. It would be ideal if the book also shed literary value and were enjoyable to read aloud to a child as well.
Book Review: Dinos love to learn too Summary: 4 Stars
My son is in love with dinosaurs and it does a great job of bringing them to life. My son is 4 and loves to see the dinosaurs go to school and do their school work. The writing is witty without getting to cutesy. The illustration is also great.
Book Review: this book is awesome Summary: 4 Stars
My three years old was starting preschool, so I wanted a book on behaving in school, sharing and being loving with your classmates. This book is great on these topics.
Book Review: Good, but not the best one written Summary: 3 Stars
While I thought this was a good book, I felt like it focused more on the negative side of being bad versus the "positives" of being good. The art work is beautiful as always. I just need more examples of the good things kids can do at kindergarten, not just what they shouldn't do.
