Book Reviews of House of Daughters (House of Peine)

Book Review: The beginnine of a long friendship
Summary: 5 Stars

I read a review of "House of Daughters" in the newspaper and thought it sounded interesting so ordered it from Amazon. I was not disappointed! It was fascinating to read of the change in the relationships of the three Peine sisters as the book progressed and to learn all the steps necessary in producing wine. And the glossary in the back of the book was wonderful for helping to understand the French words that referred to winemaking since I have never studied the French language. I mentioned the book to a friend who belongs to a French conversation group and they are now reading it for one of their discussions. I liked the book so much that I immediately ordered "Blessed Are the Cheesemakers" which is about a family in Ireland and "By Bread Alone" about a family in Sussex, England. Sarah-Kate Lynch, the author, visits the country in which the novels take place and researches them thoroughly before writing, and it shows. I am looking forward to reading "...Cheesemakers" and "By Bread Alone."

Summary of House of Daughters (House of Peine)

Family rivalries, long-ago love affairs, and forgotten scandals blend in this sparkling novel set in the Champagne province of France

With effervescent wit and clear-eyed insight, Sarah-Kate Lynch explores the rivalries and bonds of sisterhood amidst the lush countryside of France?s Champagne province. Clementine is the rightful heir to the House of Peine, the vineyard that has been in the family for generations. She has spent her whole life caring for the vines, not to mention caring for her sour brute of a father. But now that the Peine patriarch is dead, his will stipulates that Clementine must share the vineyard with a half-sister she hasn?t seen in twenty years and another she didn?t even know existed. As one vineyard brings three estranged siblings together, readers will savor this heartfelt toast to sisterhood and inspired celebration of Champagne.
