Book Review: Our Game
Summary: 5 Stars

THE SETP
In the second of the King & Maxwell series, Michelle Maxwell and Shawn King, former secret service agents, and partners in a private detective firm are hired to assist in the defense of Junior Deaver, a local handyman, accused of burglary of the Battle family mansion. In the meantime, several apparently copycat (of the infamous Zodiac killer) murders take place. That's the setup. As the novel develops, there are additional murders (in the style of other infamous serial killers), the numerous eccentric Battles and staff are introduced, and many unexpected connections between various towns-peoples and the Battles are revealed.

COMMENTS
There is NO annoying teaser. The purpose of this loathsome device (which has become "standard" in most popular novels) is to snag potential purchasers, who are skimming first chapters in bookstores, with up-front action. Often such "flashes" have virtually nothing to do with the story. More typically, they only become comprehensible to the reader near the end of the novel, by which time the details have been forgotten. THANK YOU DAVID BALDACCI! "The Hour Game" opens with Michelle's discovery of the first-"Zodiac" bodies. This serves the purpose of an teaser, but is an integral part of the story rather than an afterthought.

THE VERDICT
With mystery, action, intriguing characters, romantic tension, tragedy, and even some humor, this masterfully written novel has everything a reader could want. In the world of popular fiction, this, and most other Baldacci novels, stands heads and shoulders taller than most other 5-star rated novels.

Book Review: The Second Book in the Sean King and Michelle Maxwell Series
Summary: 5 Stars

David Baldacci attended law school at the University of Virginia, and went on to work as a trial lawyer, and later as a corporate lawyer, in Washington, D.C. He is now a full-time writer whose best selling novels include Absolute Power, Total Control, The Winner, The Simple Truth and Saving Faith. He lives in Virginia with his wife and two children.

This is a book about a deranged serial killer (is there any other kind?). The killer taunts the police and their resources by leaving watches on the victims. The watches are set to the hour corresponding to the victims position on his hit list. Even more barbaric the killer strives to reconstruct and replicate notorious murders from the past, trying to improve upon them by meticulous attention to detail.

Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are already investigating another crime, but when they are assigned to help in the serial killer case, they soon begin to realise that the two cases may well be connected. To muddy the waters even further another killer surfaces and this one is imitating the murders carried out by the first . . .

Book Review: Surprised by all of the negative and mediocre reviews
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first David Baldacci book and I immediately regret that I haven't read anything by him until now. I simply loved this book. I was very surprised to log on to Amazon and read how many people disliked it. I'm glad I didn't use these reviews to gauge my interest. Yes, it's very easy to read a murder mystery such as this and "pick it apart" with all of the minor problems, inconsistencies, and whether or not certain situations are "believable". All I know is that I had trouble putting this book down. I found myself guessing throughout the book who the guilty party or parties were and enjoyed how everything came together at the end. I thought Michelle and Sean were very believable as well and made a good partnership. It was "long", but that never bothered me at all. I could have lasted an extra 100 pages. I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's work.

Book Review: Typical Baldacci, Outstanding
Summary: 5 Stars

Former secret service agents Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are back again. In this story they deal with a serial killer. The first body is found in the woods in Virginia. Her watch is missing and clues found lead the police along a trail to a famous serial killer from the past. Meanwhile Sean and Michele are investigating the burglary of a wealthy couple in the area. More bodies pile up, more clues are left which make the murders look like the work of someone copying famous serial killers and it looks like the case our erstwhile ex-secret service agents are working on is connected. Like all David Baldacci books, you won't be able to put this one down, not till you're finished. Then you just might want to start over. It's that good.

Book Review: An Enthralling Suspenseful Thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

I found Baldacci's novel excellent. The characters believable. The story seems to have to separate plots in the beginning, which nicely come together as one. There are twists & turns throughout the novel which centers around an elite family in a small Virginia town. The serial killer runs amok. There seems no plausible ties to his killings. Mr. Baldacci brings it all together extremely well at the book's conclusion. The story is very well thought out & attention gripping
