Book Reviews of Horus Rising (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Horus Heresy)Book Review: Don't equate the cover with the content Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this when it came out, i've read it 2x since then and gave it away to a friend who hadn't read any 40k books. I'm now buying another copy so I can read it again. When I started reading several hours slipped right by that felt more like 30 minutes, even after that I had a hard time putting it down. This was the first of Dan Abnett's book i'd read and have read all 40k novels he has written since then. I think all the guys on the cover should've had their helmets on though the faces aren't really all that good.
Book Review: Fantastic Story Summary: 5 Stars
I had no interest in the Warhammer universe whatsoever until I bought the boardgame "Horus Heresy" by Fantasy Flight.
The game stirred my interest in the story, and so I bought this book which is the first in a series of books that tell the story of the "Horus Heresy".
It was great! I could hardly put this book down. I highly recommend it to anybody who loves Science Fiction!
Of course you'll then be forced to buy the rest of the books in the series.
Book Review: A fantastic beginning to a series, I'm hooked Summary: 5 Stars
Horus Rising was my first exposure to the world of Warhammer 40k and it was an engrossing and highly entertaining read. I was suprised by the quality and depth of the story. The author's style is literary, dark, compelling, and heroic. The characters and characterizations are rich and romantic and mythic. Elements of science fiction, fantasy and horror are combined masterfully to great effect. I will definitely be reading future titles of this series.
Book Review: Finally, a pre-history for the Heresy Summary: 5 Stars
Incredible, that's about the only word I can think of to describe this book. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Some of Abnetts best, in my opinion, it really gives a window into what the crusade was like. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been into WH40K for as long as I have (the Rogue Trader days) The characters came alive on the pages and made you feel like you could be there. Terrific!
Book Review: Fantastic Sci Fi even on its own merits Summary: 5 Stars
This book is great even if it were not built on the GW universe. It is the best work done so far by the GW groups large selection as a whole.
I have been very surprised by the excellent quality of all the 40K books. Very few are dogs and none of the recent offerings.
Now of they could just fix the mechanics of their rule system and lower their prices all would be great.
