Book Reviews of Horus Rising (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Horus Heresy)Book Review: What more can I say ... Summary: 5 Stars
There's not much to add. I believe most of what has been said should have already convinced you to get this book ... NOW! However, I had to add something because I truly love this book. I have always been a big fan of the background story for space marines, but always craved for more detail. This prelude does not disappoint. I finished it cover to cover in a few short hours.
I disagree with the first post about the introduction of a late antagonist. Given that this book is the opening, there is plenty of scope for character development, so I think touching on the latest antagonist was enough to whet the appetite.
I actually felt sadness and pity seeing how noble and pious the legions were to begin with, but knowing the eventual fate that would befall them. Looking forward to the entire series ... :D.
Book Review: A Great Start Summary: 5 Stars
Dan Abnett is amazing! I first heard about Warhammer 40k when I picked up the game on the PC back in 2005. Since then, the more I heard about Warhammer 40k, the more I was interested in it.
I bought this book back in March 15th, 2009 and finished in April 29th, 2009. Everyday I was so excited to pick up this book and read a page or two. Everytime I picked up this book, I can't bring myself to set it down. The story is so compelling and it's like an vortex that suck you right in it amazing story. From pages to pages, chapters to chapters and finally toward the end of the book. I was so amazed that such book existed!
I really encourage you guys that are reading this review to pick up a copy right away! You'll not be disappointed.
Book Review: Impossible to put down Summary: 5 Stars
This is what 40k lore is all about.
Amazing from start to finish, although a bit confusing at first. If you already know a bit of 40k lore, either from books or tabletop, the book starts on a seemingly significant portion of 40k lore.
The events don't make sense from what is happening with the "Emperor" in the beginning. As you read on you realize that the book indeed never strays from its precursor story, and that this is a different event entirely.
I've heard mixed opinions about how well the Black Library books have done the 40k lore justice, but this novel has cemented my faith in their story telling.
Truly Epic.

Book Review: Good Stuff! Summary: 5 Stars
Dan Abnett is my fav writer for Warhammer 40K Series. He knows how to intertwine suspense, intrigue and action flawlessly. Not all of the Horus Hersey titles are actually well written, and often the books make you feel like you're treading down a predictable path with a bunch of giant male-robots [boring & monotonous].
But Dan has a way of breathing life into every lead character in this story.
This book delivers on all fronts, and the veteran storyteller does not disappoint! He really sets the stage for the entire epic Horus series, giving the readers a glimpse of things to come!
If you're a true Warhammer 40K fan you won't regret this one!
