Book Reviews of Horus Heresy: LegionBook Review: Legion Summary: 5 Stars
Legion, by Dan Abnett is about the Alpha Legion of Space Marines shortly before the Triumph at Ullanor and is the first of the Horus Heresy Series to show the Imperial Guard at that time. I read this book within two days and found it immensely entertaining and well paced, with all parts and characters feeling very realistic and well thought out. But this book must simply be read for the revelations it offers at the end of the book, they're great! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and although it didn't feature much action, the story told itself without it and i knew it was a great read.
Book Review: Best of the Heresy Series Summary: 5 Stars
You know what is a mark of good writing? Characters that don't seem like something you've seen before and dialogue that you don't see coming from a mile away. In "Legion" you have a great set of interweaving plot threads where at no time does a character do something for the sake of the writer needing to advance the plot or create artificial drama. Everyone has their motivations and they stick to them in a manner that actually makes sense. Great book.
Book Review: Abnett shows again why he is the best. Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best Horus Heresy novel to date. Aside from highlighting Dan Abnett's skills as a storyteller once again, this book shakes the history of the 40k universe down to the core in an unforeseen way.
As a huge fan of the Alpha Legion (whose activities this book includes) I was overjoyed with the twists, turns and exploits involved in this novel and couldn't stop smiling once i'd finished it.
5 stars, no question.
Book Review: One of, if not, the best in HH Series Summary: 5 Stars
This is a really great book. The 'two' stories are intertwined perfectly. DA hints just enough at the AL to make you want more and more.
Their tactics are so entirely different from all other legions, it really makes you wonder if the Emperor had created more legions, that they may have followed the AL lead.
A must read for any HH, AL or 40K fan, as it sets the ground work for the apocalyptic final HH.
Book Review: Dan Abnett does it again.... Summary: 5 Stars
Legion begins from the Imperial soldiers point of view rather then the Astartes and does an excellent job of providing the reader with the various angles and inter workings of the Alpha Legion. The cloak and dagger legion so to speak among the Space Marines, Legion lends fresh awareness to the Alpha Legion beyond previous tidbits available in the Black Library. My favorite among the Horus Heresy books......
