Book Review: Incredibly comprehensive and well written by an experienced author

A really satisfying book to have in your hands; glossy, thick, quality, heavy. Everything I was expecting and probably more. I have recently leased eight acres of land to graze my two horses on, and I am learning as I go at how to best manage that land. I am considering it practice as we save up for our own 3-5 acre property. With that in mind, I purchased this book to get advice from someone experienced with managing smaller properties.
The content within this book is better than I imagined. It has everything from budget templates, sample costing, barn diagrams and layouts, beautiful huge colour pictures with captions and descriptions, easy to read text written in a way that anyone can understand. My personal favorites are the sample land layouts; they provide a before and after diagram of what a property looks like (for example eight acres with just a house and garage on it), and then it proposes the changes to best suit that property (where paddocks could be fenced, gravel paths or driveways laid, a barn or stables placed, an arena, etc) to best utilise that particular land. It offers several different types, all displaying ways to use each property to their best advantage. This book is a pot of gold!
Some things are total common sense about horse keeping, and others are little nuggets that I hadn't even thought of but that make so much sense. If you even get just a handful of ideas out of this book, it is still worth the purchase, and it's a real page turner. When I got it, I couldn't stop turning the pages. The pictures are stunning, they offer solutions for properties in winter when controlling mud or snow, and they offer solutions for just about anything you need to know about keeping horses, whether they be in pasture full time, or in stables, or in yards. The author has tried to include everything her knowledge base has given her, and it is much more than I ever expected or I had even thought about. An extremely good buy, even for those just dreaming of having a property later in life, it is great to skim through and imagine all the possibilities :o)
