Book Reviews of Home: A NovelBook Review: Beautiful, touching, perfect Summary: 5 Stars
Maybe not perfect, because it did come to an end. This is truly one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. I read Gilead after Home, and found it equally as beautiful. It is a story set in a simpler time, when things like good behavior and honor mattered more. The things that set Jack so far apart from his family would not seem like such a big deal now.The relationship of Jack and Glory is skilfully written, and it is easy to feel her pain and hope. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Book Review: Redemption at it's best! Summary: 5 Stars
The story of the prodigal son Jack is very tender and engaging. The author's style of writing is unique in the sense that it is wordy yet you want to read every word. Robinson draws you into the story so that you feel you are sitting with Jack and his sister Glory, witnessing their moving conversations. Robinson did a superb job of telling this story of love, forgiveness, family, redemption and hope.
Book Review: Captured anguish Summary: 5 Stars
Marilynne Robinson has masterfully captured the anguish parents feel when a child fails to get his life together. They know they did not raise the child for this to happen. The fact that their other children turn out just fine does not ease the pain. To me, this is a very emotional book. I cried right along with old man Boughton. I like Gilead, but I love Home.

Book Review: This is what the truth sounds like... Summary: 5 Stars
Spare and quiet, this is a devastating story of how the roles of childhood can shape and haunt a character for their entire life. It lacks some of the more uplifting insights of Robinson's last novel and instead illuminates the often crabbed world of its male protaganist. Hard in the way life can be, and equally as rewarding.
Book Review: Home Summary: 5 Stars
A superb evocation of a time and place in a timeless story of loss, grief and redemption. The same characters as her second book Gilead, told from another perspective; a literary tour de force! I recommend it (and her other two books which includes Homemaking) without reservation.
