Book Reviews of Holy Smokes (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 4)

Book Review: wonderfully amusing romantic fantasy
Summary: 4 Stars

Guardian Aisling Grey and her wyvern lover Drake Vireo have decided on a simple wedding. However, unknown relatives are coming out of the woodwork from even unheard of paranormal places demanding an invitation to the wedding of the year. As the numbers grow, even imps want to be there though one must be cautious in allowing that species anywhere near a gala unless food fights are on the agenda.

As their wedding plans expand to the point they consider elopement, the hostilities between the green and the red dragons ignites into what looks like a heated war. Finally Fiat the blue dragon demands Drake back off as he has a prior claim on Aisling. Overwhelmed by it all, Aisling concludes she either remains single or she abducts Drake so that he can become her beloved spouse.

The fourth Aisling Grey romantic fantasy is a wonderfully amusing relationship drama with some YOU SLAY ME escapades. Fans of the series will enjoy the zany goings-on as the lead couple prepares for a wedding celebration that has completely gotten out of control especially on the supernatural plane. HOLY SMOKES, this is a laugh out loud tale that readers will appreciate while wondering elopement but to where, breaking up but they light each other's fire or I do while dragons war and Fiat heatedly objects.

Book Review: Aisling, the Demon Lord/Guardian/Wyvern's Mate for president (ok, maybe not)!
Summary: 4 Stars

Action, nonsense, magic, and sexy men...what more can you ask for? Aisling runs a mile a minute trying to have a wedding, get out of being "Damned", avoid getting herself killed by red dragon sept members, and return to being officially Drake's mate.

In addition to the normal comic relief, Jim, the demon in a Newfie's body ("Who am I? Where am I? Do I still have all my toes?"), Aisling's Uncle Damian also gives way to some great lines, such as when he sees Fiat (beginning of chapter 8):

Uncle Damian: "That him?"...
Aisling: "Yup."
Uncle Damian: "Looks like a porn star."
Jim: "Do I want to ask how he knows what a porn star looks like?"

The dark voice in her head can get a little distracting at times (which is probably more to illustrate how Aisling is distracted by it) and her Stepmother's rants annoy you as they should (anyone else have a member like that in their family?!).

"Holy Smokes" is also more upbeat than the last ones. You are thrust into new situations and areas constantly, keeping you guessing where to next and who to trust. I get bored with traditional romance novels, but these type of paranormal romance novels I stock up on.

Book Review: Holy Smokes, I'm Glad This Came Out
Summary: 4 Stars

I loved the first book in this series. The first time Aisling and Drake kissed I had butterflies. The second book was almost as good but the ending made me want to scream. Then came the third book. I almost threw it across the room four times. Now came the fourth book. Of course I had to buy it but for at least two weeks I kept it by my bed and did not read it. I was so afraid it would be terrible. I finally picked it up and thank you Katie MacAlister. I will not give up any details but it did restore my faith in the series. I can now pick up the fifth book with out fear. Well, maybe a little fear but hopefully it will be good.

Book Review: Great next step
Summary: 4 Stars

Katie MacAlister has done it again. Number 4 of the Aisling Grey series is a both a satisfying book on its own, and a great step in moving the series forward.

Aisling is just as funny as ever, and there are also some touching moments in the book.

I do wish I'd taken a moment to reread the 3rd before picking this up, though - there is a "cast of thousands" and it took me a couple of chapters to remember who was whom.

As all of the author's novels, this is certainly not deep nor particularly dark, but it was a very fun quick read, and I'll be eagerly awaiting number 5.

Book Review: Good One!
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this series, and this book, but this one left me feeling "huh?". Why? Brush-up on book 3 before you read book 4. This is a must as there are alot of references to things that happened in book 3 in this one, and if you forgot any of it, you'll be trying to remember it as you read this one. And THAT isnt any fun. That said, this book was good!, you WILL enjoy it, and I hate that I have to wait a year or so before the next one comes out!
