Book Reviews of Holy Lockdown: Does the Church Limit Black Progress?

Book Review: It hurts! But it is the TRUTH!!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

What brother writes about in his book may hurt many faithful and sincere churchgoers. However, it is the truth! Brother in his intro states his motives for writing this work. His motive was not to tear the church down but to simply look at it and the impact of its teaching on the Black Community. We have to ask, why is the Black Community OVERRUNNING with churches, I have personnally seen FOUR churches on one city block. Yet, our community still suffers. I am on the last chapter of the book and I find it very interesting and is a book that every person who attends a church needs to read. The chapter where he talks about how pastors need to grow beyond the literal interpretation of the bible. For example, he talks about how pastors in 2005 still preach about how a man was swallowed whole by a whale and then spit up on dry land whole. He says that it is a scientific FACT that whales cannpt swallow anything as large as a grapefruit. Every chapter is on point. I wish I could talk to brother and let him know to keep on going and expect a backlash, because there are very FEW Christains who are willing to have a logical, rational and nonemotional discussion about what we have been taught about the Bible and our Saviour Jesus the Christ. Another example in the book is when he askes the question,"How can you read a King James Version of the Bible and make it your sole authority on matters relating to God and you HAVE NEVER EVEN DID ANY RESEARCH ON WHO KING JAMES WAS AND STOOD FOR? THE SAME IS TRUE FOR CONSTANTINE!
The book Holy Lock Down is own point! Black pastors have our people's attention on Sunday's and very FEW speak on issues that will help us get out of this condition. I CAN GO ON AND ON AND ON! READ THE BOOK FOR YOURSELF! JESUS SAID THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE! Question: Aren't you tired of being a mental slave?

Summary of Holy Lockdown: Does the Church Limit Black Progress?

Holy Lockdown: Does the Church Limit Black Progress? Why are there many churches, yet major problems in Black communities? Why are Blacks amongst the most Jesus-Praising people in the world, yet the most fragmented and economically dependent? Is there a correlation between high praising and low productivity? Holy Lockdown addresses the paradox that exists within the Black community. One that reflects the abundance of Black churches coupled with the abundance of Black problems. There are approximately 85,000 predominately Black churches in this country, meaning, we could have 1,700 Black churches in every state! Holy Lockdown takes a critical and long overdue look at the psychological impact the church and sermonic rhetoric has made on the Black collective, and it explores the possibility of the church as being a contributing factor to many social problems facing Blacks.
