Book Reviews of Holy Blood, Holy GrailBook Review: Christianity Exposed Summary: 5 Stars
This book may not be suitable for die-hard Christians who are afraid to question their own religious beliefs. Before I begin, let me state that the authors do not want to destroy Christianity. Instead, this is an historic look at Christ, Christianity, and the Knights Templar. Therefore, for those of us who wish to venture into historical speculation about the divinity of Christ and the reason why the Pope and the King of France eventually crusaded against the Knights Templar, then this is the book for you. Basically, this book discusses how the Knights Templar may have discovered "a truth" about historic Jesus. The authors give splendid examples from the scriptures, other writings, and works of art to support their fundamental theory -- Jesus Christ survived the crucification and established a royal bloodline. In essence, this is the Holy Grail; the royal bloodline started by Christ. If you enjoyed the Da Vinci Code, then you will like this book as well. The themes are quite similar. For those a bit more adventurous in their search for revelations about Christianity, I suggest reading works by Umberto Eco. By the time you complete reading these books, you may get a different opinion on the origins of Christianity, the Knights Templar, and the Free Masons.
Book Review: Well documented book for a extreme subject... Summary: 5 Stars
If anyone wanted to know about the holy grail, the Knights of the Templar and their myth, and overall a historical outlook of the New Testament, then this is the book. No holds barred as the authors barrel full force into topics years ago would of had them persecuted. Now, truth can be made from all the cluttering disinformation about the past and present of western world theology. Although nothing in this book states anything groundbreaking or faith shattering for some people, the basic fact that things DID happen and all is not what you have grown and been taught to think. The most important aspect of this book with exception to the subject matter within would be how easily it reads. A thick volume of vast information, the authors did an exceptional job of keeping the information coherent and also seperating the fact from speculation. If any more evidence was needed, the authors never hesitate to represent thier source and even speculate possibilities not yet proven. Astonishing work. An ideal book for those who wish to ponder the truth. Most importantly, this book doesn't tell you your wrong, it just makes you think for yourself. From that point, a better understanding and faith in your questions can arise and you can look into these issues of the past on your own.
Book Review: HEY CHRISTIANS!!! WAKE FROM YOUR STUPOR!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a fine place from which to proceed on one's deconstruction of the prodigious and arcane set of lies, coercion and cover-up collectively known as modern christianity. The one resounding truth that rings through out the book is that power and vengeance, not love for fellow man or worship of the man named Joshua, has dominated the christian theocracy and European monarchies over the past two millennia. Amazingly, this book dips its beak into all twenty of those centuries to construct a dazzlingly simple and elegant hypothesis (which I will leave to you to discover).Personally, I found the most engrossing part of the book to be those parts covering the first five centuries of christianity and how they determined the development of western society. The other parts of the book which deal with the middle ages up to the present are much more relevant as the very last pages of the book unfold to the reader. Hold on for a long, tortuous and tantalizing ride through the looking glass my friends. Faith will be transcended and replaced with a novel substitute: truth. I also highly recommend the sequel "The Messianic Legacy" which elaborates on "Holy Blood Holy Grail" as well as the roots of schisms in early christianity. Splendid!
Book Review: Be Careful of "Official Histories" Summary: 5 Stars
Baigent, Leigh and Licoln have excelled themselves in the writing of this book. It's contents are extensive, very absorbing and very controversial to say the least. It saddens me to see people who have reviewed this book find that they cannot suspend their indoctrination by the prevailing "world views" of history, to consider that the authors may just be right in their assertions. Remember, "history" is written by those who ultimately have the upper hand i.e. it's subjective to the extreme, and biased accordingly. To find out what really happpened, given the evidence available, you would have to dig very deeply to get past prevailing dogma and ideology of the time. All history is questionable...even that promulgated by "acceptable" authorities. I found "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail", very thought provoking, entertaining and very well researched. Given the prevailing current of historical thought amongst academia and historians, you would think that a book like this would never get off the press. Even more so with the Catholic Church. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone wishing to look at an alternative to the established thought of our day...always keep an open mind. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
Book Review: Reminds us of the origins of Christianity Summary: 5 Stars
We sometimes forget a few things about established organized religion.
1. The Bible is not complete. A few guys who were the upper eschelon of their "cult" got together (with their own agenda) and decided which scriptures could be included. These books and letters supported their own view of what they thought "Christianity" should be. They put more importance on the words of Paul (who, by the way, NEVER met the Christ and had his own issues boiling over into his ministry) than they did on purported witnesses and words of the actual disciples! This became the "Early Church" which then branched off into Catholicism and the Greek Orthodox Church.
2. The Bible was changed several times before today's version. Scholars have noted that Mary Magdalene in the original scriptures was NOT a prostitute, but a merely wealthy woman who was the most mentioned female disciple. What kind of insecure and unholy individuals would slander the Beloved Disciple?
Even if you wholeheartedly disagree with this book, it makes you think long and hard (at least it should) about what kind of things the "church" is telling you to believe. Read Holy Blood, Holy Grail and the Bible, including the Gnostic Gospels, for yourself. The TRUTH is out there...
