Drs. John Worsham and Sam Quatro are summoned to an Amazon rainforest in Brazil to determine if a new, deadly infectious disease has killed all the workers at a site that is being cleared for construction. They find, instead, that the men are not dead, but are changed into shells of men without cognitive ability. They find DNA from a South China Sea puffer fish together with previously undescribed man-made neurotoxins. This leads them on an adventure to Africa where they learn the truth. A war is being waged between those wishing to protect and the perpetrators of the holocaust that is destroying the environment for profit. Sam and John themselves become converts and supporters of the "zombie conspirators". The story skillfully weaves together scientific and secular descriptions, novel militant action ideas to save the environment, ideas about power and greed and the possible future of the planet earth. Vivid descriptions of the fate of poached gorillas, chimpanzees, monkeys and other dwellers of the rainforest brings home the magnitude and the inhumanity of the environmental criminals that are plundering the world's rainforests today.
