Book Review: What is the big deal?

I couldn't get into this book. The characters seemed whiny and not 'deep enough'. The plot went back and forth from one character's perspective and then another character's perspective a lot, and it's confusing. It seemed like a great deal of information was chopped out of the book, the reader is slapped in the middle of places and ideas and has no idea what the heck is going on, and frankly, the 'scariness' of this novel leaves so much to be desired that I didn't even care. I got to page 19 or 20 and couldn't take it anymore. This is not scary, it's boring, lackluster, and skips back and forth so much I lost track and finally in the end, didn't even care. I've tried numerous Koontz books and this is the last straw. If this is modern scary book writing, I don't give a darn. It's not intriguing, not interesting, and fails to even hold my interest. Koontz, I think, after reading a few of his books, has this particular problem: He uses too many words that don't even work well together and in the end this results in a whole lot of saying of absolutely nothing. He talks a lot but it's all empty. This reader didn't even care past page 20. It's hard to explain how someone can use a lot of words, say a lot, and in the end not really say anything of value at all, but Koontz excels at this. I must have tried 3 other of his novels, and they all are as boring as this one. And if this is one of his best, I can safely say I have no desire to try again.
