Book Reviews of Here, Bullet

Book Review: delicious reflections on an impalatable war
Summary: 5 Stars

Turner's poems are beautiful reflections on the ugly realities of war. His book is like a report from the battlefield, written with warmth and insight tinged by a deep and abiding sadness. To read this book is to be moved in a basic way.

This book purchased as a gift for my wife. She read it quickly and really enjoyed it.

Excellent writer

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

I think the verse is just fine. He's a good poet, and the imagery helps us who have not traveled to where he's been.

Book Review: A book of Pity
Summary: 4 Stars

Here, is poetic reportage with a heavy heart. Brian Turner manages to salvage verse from the jaws of madness. Here are difficult songs full of reverence for life, and achingly sensitive to the blasphemy that calls itself war... or,the bloody waste of dealing in what philosopher Bertrand Russell calls "licensed murder".

Turner faithfully surveys this nightmarish landscape -of obscene unravelings and endgames- and manages to keep awake and spiritually alive by somehow never losing sight of the dignity of others or the immortality of the human spirit.

Book Review: Work of an Iraq War soldier-poet
Summary: 4 Stars

From his personal experience in this horrendous war, Brian Turner
has carved out a slim volume of poems. With the fighting still
going on, Turner's words about the dead and the dying made me
cry. They brought me back to the soldier-poets of World War One,
writers like Wilfred Owens and Siegfried Sassoon, and how little
has changed.
