Book Reviews of Here, BulletBook Review: Visualize the Intensity Summary: 5 Stars
Brian Turner, a soldier who served in the Iraq war, offers a contrast between the landscape of Iraq and the war-torn areas in and around Baghdad. By sharing personal experiences from a war that's now being called "our children's children's war," Turner gives the brutal truth about war and what happens to those directly involved. The title selection, "Here, Bullet" is very intense and reminds me of Beowulf daring Grendel to attack. "Nine-line Medivac" makes me feel I'm in the field waiting for the copter to arrive. Very touching material that made an impact.
Book Review: Publisher's Weekly what a tool. . . Summary: 5 Stars
publisher's weekly is obviously finding Turner's book an "anti-war" missive...and are missing the point. this is the experience of a man on the front lines. i have been lucky enough to hear Turner read his own work from Here, Bullet, and speak with him...he is no coward, and he is no cindy sheehan. his work helped me understand what my son went through on his two tours of Iraq, just a glimpse of what he could not communicate to me, before he died so soon in an auto accident. i recommend this book to anyone with a loved one there in the desert.
Book Review: A masterpiece that speaks truth Summary: 5 Stars
Brian Turner has created a masterpiece. Unlike the media's sanitized war video, the images Brian Turner creates with words overpower the reader's defenses and sting the soul. Bravo!
For those of us who knew other wars in other times, Here, Bullet rings true all the way to its core. It is real enough to bring back PTSD, real enough to bring back nightmares.
Turner's poem "Sadiq" should be translated into every language and taken into the heart of every man.
Book Review: War Poetry Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoyed reading this very compelling account of a soldier in war, even though it was assigned for school. Turner does not try to gloss over or sugar-coat the details of war, and instead brings them home to the reader without being terribly graphic. I feel these poems are a good way to introduce Americans to the turmoils of war overseas; thus, I would highly recommend it.
Book Review: Excellent and Thought-Provoking Summary: 5 Stars
You can read this book of poems in about an hour. It's absolutely amazing and you'll wonder how someone can encapsulate the trials and tribulations of the American Soldier and the people from the Middle East. It's definitely worth it. And if nothing else, you'll gain one man's perspective from an artistic and creative point of view.
