After reading so many reviews and suggestions that I should read Suzanne Brockmann for an exciting and fast- paced romantic thriller, I'm very disappointed. I must say, the story had some very moving plots. The characters are well- fleshed out. The storyline unique. But, holy cow! NOTHING happens! For 344 pages I waited for the excitement and/or mystery. It never came. The most lively part of the story was when the heroine accidentally swallowed LSD. Her tripping scene was half- funny/half- touching. Other than that, it was just one day after another of the hero trying not to fall back into alcoholism, and the heroine having absolutely no faith in his ability to beat his addiction.
Jed is a fallen movie star. Years ago, he lost his mega- star status due to his struggle with drugs and alcohol. Now 5 years sober, he is working from the ground- up to rebuild his carrier.
Kate has an opportunity to make it in the entertainment world. Unlike Jed, her position is behind the camera. The movie she is about to make will decide her future. Nothing can go wrong. When her partner hires Jed for the starring role, she is sure he will be unreliable. The only way she will agree to let him have the role, is if he signs a contract that gives her complete control over his life during the months of filming. This includes having him followed 24/7 by a guard who will watch his every move. If he takes any drugs, or drinks any alcohol, he will be fired. When the guard turns out to be unreliable, Kate has no choice but to "baby-sit" Jed herself... 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
The scenes where Brockmann describes the actors performing their roles during filming are excellently written. She makes her characters come to life. Based upon that talent, I will try another of her books. Hopefully, I'll find some of that action/excitement I've heard so much about.
