Book Review: Great Book!

Dr. Sarno is a true pioneer in regards to diagnosing and treating back pain and has made a tremendous contribution with his discovery of the mind/body connection for this condition. I did, however, as a number of reviewers have pointed out, after reading Healing Back Pain felt the need for additional steps.

At the time I was disabled with back, leg, neck, and hand pain, and quite disappointed and frustrated with the treatments I had recieved. Healing Back Pain answered all my questions about my condition and fit perfectly well with all the crucial research information I had discovered. Although Dr. Sarno's guidelines seemed useful, I felt the need for more concrete steps and a faster recovery time. As a father of two, I wanted to get well as quickly as possible. So I designed an effective nine-step plan for rapid recovery based on techniques used by Olympic athletes. The rapid recovery plan helped me improve immediately and recover shortly after. Those with herniated discs as well as carpal tunnel syndrome have recovered rapidly using these techniques.

After my recovery I wanted to share my story and the recovery plan with all those suffering needlessly from back and neck pain. In addition to conducting seminars and workshops I wrote Rapid Recovery from Back and Pain: A Nine-Step Recovery Plan which provides crucial research on back and neck pain and many cases of rapid recovery as well as a section for designing a personal rapid recovery plan. Book Review: In pain? Read this book!

I was debilitated by severe back pain early in 1999, a repetition of a problem I had in 1987. Over the years, I accommodated to the pain, limiting many of my activities. I would often have to take some time off to "lay down" to relieve occasional attacks. Then this year I was laid low by extreme pain in my legs radiating from the lower back.

An MRI and the diagnosis of 2 leading neurosurgeons confirmed the existence of 2 herniated disks, several bulging disks and spinal stenosis. Both recommended surgery, but I was hesitant. Even though I could not drive, sit up, or function in any normal way, I resisted the surgery. I was taking painkillers, anitinflammatories and doing physical therapy, but getting no better. None of the healthcare professionsl I queried would admit to knowing Sarno or anything about his ideas--what a shame.

After seeing Sarno on 20/20 I bought the book and recognized myself in his description of the typical back pain sufferer. I started to apply the ideas in his book that day, and started getting better immediately. After 4 weeks I was basically pain-free and after 8 weeks I felt I had recovered to my earlier level of health.

Now, 9 months later, I'm more active and in better shape than in the last 10 years, and feel 20 years younger. If you can get your mind to go along for a few weeks, this book will change your life for the better. Not least of all, you will feel that you really can influence your back pain syndrome, instead of being a passive victin. Try it!


Book Review: This book and a pitcher of margaritas cued my back pain!

For over twenty years I experienced back pain that some times incapacitated me. Six years ago, on a business trip, my back 'went out' on an airplane and I was unsure whether I could get out of my seat. I struggled to get out of the plane and checked in to my hotel on the River Walk in San Antonio Texas. I went right to bed but, upon attempting to get up in an hour, found that I had to roll out onto the floor. I yelled so loud that a security person actually checked in on me.

I hobbled down the stairs to the escalator, out onto the River Walk and stopped in a bookstore to pick up a copy of the Comsumer Union's Back Book. It was out of stock but I spied a copy of Healing Back Pain. I purchased the book and walked a few steps to a mexican restaurant on the River Walk. Opening the book, I ordered a pitcher of margaritas to reduce the pain and began to read. It was a fast read and upon getting to the end and finishing the last drop in my pitcher, I finally got up and walked away - never to be truly bothered by back pain again.

I've read the book several times since and have given away approximately 50 of them to friends (most of whom have had similar results). In fact I've just given away my last copy and logged on to Amazon.COM to reorder ten more. It was time for me to drop this note to those of you who have not yet read this book. Suspend your beliefs, read the book, and get rid of your back pain. A pitcher of margaritas might not hurt either (;-).


Book Review: This book gave me my life back

For years I was one of those people who just resigned himself to having a "bad back". Several times a year my back would "go out" for no reason and I gave up doing most of the things I really cared about. I worried about my back all the time.Then I heard about this book and I ordered it. I read it and decided to believe every word of it because I thought that it was my last chance (I honestly think that people who don't get results from this book are more committed to their skepticism than healing their back pain), which wasn't hard because it is extremely well written. That was years ago and I've only had three "back attacks" since - but instead of lasting a week or more, by remembering what Dr. Sarno wrote in his book they lasted a few hours at most. Other than that I've been TOTALLY pain free and I don't worry about my back at all.

Most of the people I tell about the book say things like, "Oh - I'm sure that would work for most people, but my back pain is different - it's real." They are committed to their back pain. ALL of them still suffer. The few people who HAVE read the book after I've told them about it have gotten the same results as me - they are free from back pain and don't worry about their backs at all any more. So buy this book. But only buy it if you're willing to give up your back pain forever, because it works. If you're more committed to your back pain than you are to getting better, then don't waste your time. It's up to you.
