writing! I just wish that Kirby Larson wrote more books! She pulled me and my 3 children (ages 15, 14, & 9) into the daily read-aloud. The truth of the history gave us such a picture of the struggles that not only a "honyocker" went thru, but the persecution of the American-German immigrants experienced. Oh thank you, Ms Larson for giving us the gift of this book!Book Review: Great

I love this book. The imagery is wonderful. Every time I read it I feel like I'm right there with Hattie and the rest of the characters. Even though I'm an adult, I keep turning to this every time I need something cozy to read.Book Review: Don't pass up on the experience.

It took me a bit to get into this book, but then I ate it up. The writing's not spectacular, but the story is great. Like Little House on the Prairie meets Dances with Wolves. I really enjoyed reading about Hattie's struggles to meet the demands of homesteading life on her own.Book Review: Great story...disappointing ending

This book is great for both young teens and adults alike. The plot is interesting and keeps you engaged the whole way through. However, I was disappointed in the ending, which is why I gave it only four stars.
