Book Reviews of Harry Potter Paperback Box Set (Books 1-6)

Book Review: Harry Potter is the real deal. This set makes it happen.
Summary: 5 Stars

Nice paperback set with slipcover - makes a great gift. If you're one of the half dozen people on the planet who has not yet read this amazing series - or if you're on the fence about getting it for a child - DON'T HESITATE. This isn't overly pop or half baked stuff. Harry Potter is a phenomenon because JK Rowling is an incredible writer. She brilliantly crafts a vivid alternate universe where magic is real. The plots of each book are a brilliant balance of coming of age story, comraderie, danger, and epic good against evil. There are parallels to Aescelus, Erypides, and "the Lord of the Rings". Rowling has a special affinity for action. Each of the books brews and simmers until a rip roaring conclusion. Most folks read the last couple of hundred pages of each of these in a single sitting (or must be agonizingly torn away).

Some folks might figure they'll just watch the movies. That's ironic. Rowling specifically stated part of her motivation in writing these was to get kids to read. As amazing as the movies are, they can't touch the books. Isn't that pretty much always the case? This series is great literature, and is compulsively page turningly entertaining. They have turned millions of kids on to reading. I give them my highest recommendation.

Book Review: Harry Potter series
Summary: 5 Stars

I highly recommend the Harry Potter series. I love this book because it gets me scared.
My favorite part is when Harry and Ron are in the forbidden forest being attracted by spiders. The series is about a boy named Harry Potter. His parents got murdered by the greatest wizard of all time. Harry escaped with nothing but a scar on his forehead while you know whose powers were destroyed. They Called Him you know who because witches and wizards don't like to say his name. You will need to read the book to find out what is name is! Harry never new his parents. He was only a year old when his parents where murdered by He Who Must Not Be Named. The person who murdered Harry's parents is out looking for him, to seek revenge on Harry. What you need to find out by reading the series is if Harry will die, or the Greatest Wizard of All Time Die.
Also in the book there is a fascinating game called Quiddich. It is a game where teams on broomsticks try to score goals in the three hoops. There is a seeker who tries to catch the Golden Stitch. There are two teams. Who's ever seeker catches the snitch that team wins the game.

Book Review: Fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I always wondered in what ways the US editions differed from the UK editions. Well now I know ... there is the spelling (color not colour/flavor not flavour), the alteration of some words (Jello instead of jelly/sweater instead of jumper), the addition of a description of Dean Thomas in Book 1 and the illustrations on the first page of each chapter. And the last difference is the best! I love these little illustrations and feel they add something special, a pictoral glimpse into Harry's world.

This box set of the first 6 books is a real bargain and not to be overlooked. I couldn't afford the 7-book box set in hardback and couldn't wait until the paperback version came out so purchased the 6-book set and the hardback of Deathly Hallows separately. I still have the full 7 but at a price that I could afford!

I already have all the books in the UK editions (plus Book 1 in Latin) but wanted to add the special flavour - or should that be flavor - of the US editions to my bookshelf too! As far as I'm concerned you can never have too many Harry Potter books!

Book Review: Great Series For All Ages
Summary: 5 Stars

JK Rowlings has created a series that will go down as a classic and enjoyed for many years to come. In the Harry Potter series she tells the magical tale of Harry and his friends as they go through the Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Harry quickly realizes that he is not the average student and actually is the chosen wizard to face the ultimate evil, Lor Voldemort. As each book progresses Harry learns more about his history and the horrible acts that Voldemort has caste upon his family and others. JK Rowling masterfully takes you from one adventure to the next, leaving you wanting to read more. At the end of each book is an important hurdle for Harry to overcome, which brings him one step closer to his ultimate destiny, a face off with Lord Voldemort, which ocurs in book 7.
This is a fantastic read for readers of all ages. The material is fairly innocent, with some mild violent. Parents of children under 11 may want to read the books first just to make sure they approve, but for the most part the material is fairly light hearted and adventurous.

Book Review: Great buy,amazing books
Summary: 5 Stars

This book set was an amazing deal, sure it's not the complete series, but I was able to buy the 7th book elsewhere used...so overall it was a very incredible value. I skimmed through each book to make sure it was intact,I was.For being shipped and probably sitting in storage, the set was in very good conditions, corners were worn slightly but that's invitable. Being paperbacks,it's much easier to read in any setting. I rarely ever sit to read,I'm usually in bed or something.

As for the series,I read books 1-4 back in elementary school, but then unfortunately went through I phase where I thought Harry Potter was nerdy and uncool. As an adult now, I cannot believe how foolish that was. The storyline is beautifully sewn together and the character development is terrific. They develop into adults realistically, even though placed in a fantasy series. The way the author writes is incredible, as you start reading the words just seem to vanish and you're then placed in an incredible imaginary world. This is a very special book series!
