Book Review: Hard Core, Yet Progressive

This book challenged a lot of stereotypes and makes the reader think candidly about inter-racial relationships. It's a bold, provocative and a brave attempt by an African American Male. The book shows us that although we have come a long way regarding interracial relationships, we still have a long way to go. I like the fact that the author says that, love is already hard to come by, why compound things with issues of race. It also points out that race is not the true problem in this country, but economics. The author promotes healing between black men and women, but at the same time, encourages people to RESPECT the choices that others make in relationships. This is the first book on this topic that I have read that actually talks about respecting inter-racial relationships. It also explains that at times, these relationship are harder to maintain because of societal pressures. It's a little rough in some areas, but the book is well balanced.

Handling the Truth II is a book that dares to be different. The Author, Darrin Lowery-Smith attacks many of the Stereotypes that surround interracial relationships. He addresses the issue of black men that date white women being "sellouts" as well as the issue of the majority of black men reportedly being dead, gay, or in jail. This book also includes quotes from people that he interviewed. Many of the opinions offered are very straightforward. Many other opinions are not politically correct. There are a lot of things said in this book that most black men will state among themselves, but not in front of black women. As usual, DLS tells it all!Interpersonal Relations Books
