Book Reviews of Ham Radio For DummiesBook Review: Very good primer Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this book just to see if ham was something I'd be interested in as a hobby. After reading this, and the technician licensing book put out by the ARRL, I had no problem passing my first exam and getting my license. The author also gives many website links throughout the text that are helpful in finding more free information.
Overall though, I'd say this is a good starter book, if you just want to find out what amateur radio is all about.
Book Review: Great Reference Book Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this book while I was studying for the ham exam. I had no prior knowlege of ham operations. I read it cover-to-cover while studying an exam refernce publication at the same time. I did not find this book extremely helpful for the exam itself, but it provided plain-English explanations of ham concepts which I did find very helpful. Bottom line: I don't regret spending the money for it.
Book Review: Helpful Summary: 4 Stars
I found this book to be very helpful. As a "new" Ham, I found it useful with terminolgy, equipment and just getting on the air to make that "first" contact. The author included several resources for online help. The book covers a variety of topics from atenna's to global connections. I would recommend this book to any "new" Ham.
Book Review: deputy director-emergency management Summary: 4 Stars
ham radios for dummies? i expected it to be in dummy language, there was still a lot of terminology over my head making reading a bit difficult. book was still very informative, i learned a lot.
Book Review: Good "skim" read for a quick introduction to Ham Radio Summary: 4 Stars
Ham Radio for Dummies is a good book to skim for a quick introduction to Ham Radio. It will not prepare you for the licencing test though. I recommend the ARRL test guides.
