Book Reviews of Guitar Fretboard Workbook

Book Review: Excellent systematic method for learning the fretboard
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been fascinated by the guitar for over 20 years. As such, I have built up a large library of lessons in various forms. This workbook has pulled many concepts that I have found in disparate sources and coalesced them into one place. My only slight criticism is that the basic music theory involved with learning the fretboard is not in as much depth as I would like. Consequently, I understand some of the confusion noted in other reviews. I encourage beginners to stick with it because being able to break free of the tyranny of the first position will inspire you to further heights no matter what musical style you play. My recommendation for more in-depth music theory for guitar would be the Guitar Grimoire series by Adam Kadmon. Example: The Guitar Grimoire- A Notated Intervallic Study Of Scales

Book Review: Very easy way to learn the entire fretboard
Summary: 5 Stars

I have played guitar for about 20 years. I was looking for a book to help a friend who is a beginner as I was struggling with how I would explain 20 years of knowledge. I went through the exercises myself in order to determine if I wanted to recommend this book. What I found was that the exercises really helped me have a better understanding of the fretboard. I can now find specific notes much more quickly and have a complete understanding of how scales are formed. I have only worked through the first 6 chapters but have already become a much better player. The exercises are short, concise, and to the point which maintains my interest. I will continue and complete the entire book. I would highly recommend this book to any beginner student and to anyone who is self taught and wants to "pull everything together" with a better understanding of the entire fretboard.

Book Review: Pretty darn good book.

Been playing for over 1.5 years now. Been taking lessons for over one year, but teaching the fretboard isn't my teachers strength. He has been playing for 30+ years and has written numerous albums and over 240 songs. He is actually the featured artist under review on ragmagazine.com this month. He knows scales and chords very well, but teaching the fretboard layout in general he claims is too difficult. He wants me to learn it over time just through playing. Well, I am not that patient so I tried this book. After several months it's great. I knew some information already, but learning the 5 patterns by which scales are grouped really makes the fretboard so much eaiser to navigate now. I can find single notes or scales anywhere on the neck very quick. If you don't already have the fretboard memorized I highly suggest this book.

Book Review: Guitar Fretboard Workbook
Summary: 5 Stars

I think when it comes right down to it, learning all the notes on a guitar fretboard, and their various positions, is a formidable task. The author of this book apparently believes that also ... that is why he has painstakingly developed an outline that is well thought out in order to make this knowledge easier to digest than any other method I have seen. The instruction is clear, in detail, and innovative in its approach. I have only had the book a short time, so I can't "read" the fretboard yet ... but clearly, by following this series of study and excercises, I can see that not only will I have the ability to see all the notes and their positions ... but I will have this knowledge for the rest of my life. And that is worth far more than the modest price.

Book Review: Prepare to spend some time with this book
Summary: 5 Stars

There's no substitute for knowing what you're doing when you are learning an instrument. This book will take you a long way but you must be willing to put in some time with it. Personally, I find it almost addictive with it's worksheets. My son calls them puzzles.

Figure on taking a year to work through the material. Getting in a hurry will cause confusion and you'll just have to back up and start again. I find that for me I absolutely have to finish each worksheet several times before it really takes root. My routine is to spend maybe fifteen minutes or so a day in the Guitar Fretboard Workbook and then go on to my regular practice.

This is highly recommended. If I had found it years ago I wouldn't be struggling with my playing now.
