Book Reviews of Guess How Much I Love YouBook Review: Guess How Much I Love You Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I resent Elisabeth Steadman's comment that "This book should be avoided by any thinking parent." Those words are both insulting and dead wrong. Even if one blindly looks at the "competitive" aspect of the story, the adult bunny lets the little bunny "win" in the end, only "one-upping" him after the little bunny is fast asleep. (I can't believe this is even fodder for debate.) Really, this book isn't about competition at all. Rather, it's about the unequivocal love between parent and child. (Some readers are obviously, and sadly, missing the point entirely.) Personally, I find this to be one of the most heartwarming bedtime stories of all time. My two-year-old son loves it as well. For a special treat, get the CD of the same title, which includes a special reading of the story by its Irish author, Sam McBratney, as well as some beautiful lullaby music.
Book Review: I Love You all the way up to the Moon - and Back! Summary: 5 Stars
Big Nutbrown Hare is putting Little Nutbrown Hare to bed. Little Nutbrown Hare tries to tell his father just how much he loves him by stretching out his arms, by hopping really high, and doing all sorts of funny things. With each illustration his daddy, Big Nutbrown Hare uses the same illustration that his son did to express his love even more to his little one.In the end, Little Nutbrown Hare finally falls asleep while his father tucks him in bed. It is a very cute story that is easy and quick to read, but that children love. I feel they can identify with Little Nutbrown Hare in the way he expresses his love to his father. I think it also reassures the child of his parent's love. It is a really good bedtime story. In addition, the pictures are adorable. It is VERY well done! This book is very reasonable for a board book and well worth the money!
Book Review: A perfect discription of love... Summary: 5 Stars
I proposed to my wife using this book... The simple, heartfelt discription of love is a welcome respite in today's world of "Playstations" and mindless children's entertainment, and it harkens back to a simpler "ideal" time (that may only exist in our minds...). This is an instant classic, with artwork reminicent of Beatrix Potter - soft, intelligently done watercolors that do not have the crass, materialistic overtones so prominent in many children's books. The dialogue likewise is sweet without being overly so, simple enough for a child, but not in any way similar to the sickening drivel that passes for "poetry" in so many greeting cards. Perhaps my love of nostalgia influences my regard of this book, but nonetheless, it is well executed and powerful in its simplicity.@I highly recommend this book to anyone - young or old.
Book Review: An absolute treasure! Summary: 5 Stars
This book was a gift that I did not realize would become such a treasure. My daughter loves this book and plays the "I love you this much" game with arms wide open with her dad. It is a special thing they do that makes me forever grateful that we have this book.
I remember my mom stretching her arms wide and telling me she loved me bunches and bunches and bunches. The feeling I got when she told me that was priceless. I am so thrilled that this book has helped my daughter get and give that same feeling. I would definitely buy this for anyone with children. It is an absolute treasure.
Ever the mathematician , I must also mention that it also helps kids understand the concept of "more" and "greater than" quite early. It's a treasure for the mushy stuff for sure but the early math info. is a bonus!
Book Review: Very touching, a wonderful read, even for the smallest ones Summary: 5 Stars
This is a truly touching story of a father bunny and baby bunny playfully expressing their love for each other. Maybe it was postpartum hormones, but I was moved to tears when I spotted it in the store with my newborn at my side. One reviewer described it perfectly, saying that it attempts to measure the immeasurable love parents feel for their children.
I know my now 6-month-old son does not understand it, but he gets excited when he spots the cover. He listens to my voice, looks at the pictures, and grabs at the cover (no doubt in hopes of chewing it!). My husband and I have made it part of our bedtime ritual, with all three of us lying together and reading the story. I highly recommend it to parents and children of all ages!
