Book Review: Careful

For those of you who want to start your own guerrilla group, be careful. Don't take it as a mechanical blueprint and a sure and shining path to revolutionary success.
As history has demonstrated, "foquismo" is not the answer: just take a look to the the fateful ELN's "foco" in the bolivian east, that ended with the death of Che Guevara; the defeated "foquista" experiment of the Pancasan sandinista guerrilla in Nicaragua; the Tucuman's "foco" of the argentinian ERP; the chilean MIR's "foco" in Neltume; the peruvian MIR "foquista" experiment of Luis De La Puente Uceda on The Andes; the first and squashed "foquista" intents of the guatemalan FAR; and the tragic result of the Lucio Caba?a's "foco" in Guerrero, Mexico.
So take it as an historic lesson of how not to do it. If you want to make it right: you better read Mao or Ho Chi Minh.
For the iraqi and afghan guerrilla's lessons, we'll have to wait for their leaders to write their memoirs and teachings.
PS: I had a coarse and horrible copy of this book when I was a teenager, in a time and land when having this kind of stuff could mean probably ending up "desaparecido".
Summary of Guerrilla Warfare
This indispensable book includes three of Che Guevara's most influential essays describing his tactical philosophy of fighting a guerrilla war in Latin America. Guerrilla Warfare, written in 1960, outlines Guevara's doctrine for guerrilla fighters, especially against Caribbean-style dictatorships. In Guerrilla Warfare: A Method (1963) and Message to the Tricontinental (1967), Guevara modified some of his earlier tenets. These latter two works move away from his earlier dogmatism, suggesting that Marxist revolution was possible even in purportedly democratic regimes. All three essays reflect his deeply held belief that a small, rural-based guerrilla army could trigger a revolution.
