Book Reviews of Greg Noll: The Art Of The SurfboardBook Review: Hello Hermosa Beach, Ca. Summary: 5 Stars
Having attended Pier Avenue School..across the street from Noll's surf shop, I have followed surfing since my first time out at Paddle Board Cove, or "The Cove" many moons ago. Excellent book and photos for those who really want to see the changes in board design along with the historical milestones of the surfing history.
Surfing has changed alot since Noll's and Jacob's shop on Pacific Coast Hiway. Most of the original guys are now in surfing heaven riding the milelong rollers.
I enjoyed the book and pick it up frequently to remind me of surfing in California during the 1960 and early 1970's. Yes, there was a time you could have a wave to yourself at Malibu, Rincon or Leo Carrillo State Beach..or "Secos"..or stop off at that place just south of County Line for a great hamburger, fries and a coke for about 2 bucks. How things have changed...And, where did I just come back from...surfing the northern Spanish coast...where I now live..truly "bitchin"
Book Review: Watermen, Craftsmen & Surfers Summary: 5 Stars
This book transcends art by combining a culture, a sport, a quasi-religion (at least for us Surfers) and the unique aspect of all surfboards, save the last few years, being hand made by craftsmen that placed their love of the ocean and riding its waves above the normal quest for money and power.
The Nolls are true 'Royalty' of our sport. They represent many of the qualities that are becoming increasingly lost on our youth today. With their steadfast devotion to replicating boards ridden by surfing's forefathers they show their respect to the foundation of our sport.
Thank you for your continued leadership in our sport.
A great read, a great book.
Book Review: lush publication indeed! Summary: 5 Stars
An ambitious project, a captivating and thoroughly enjoyable read. 'Greg Noll, The Art of Surfboard' has assumed it's rightful place in my home, right smack in the middle of my coffee table!
An essential part of any self respecting surfers library, even non surfers love this book......lush publication indeed!
I really appreciated the way in which Kampion so astutely and interestingly captured Noll's stunning legacy whilst revealing so many vital aspects of our surfing heritage.
Incredible research....simply awesome product!

Book Review: Two Characters Summary: 5 Stars
Surfing is a pastime/activity/obsession/lifestyle (I can't bring myself to call it a... sport) unique in its history and characters (think renegades), and Noll is a unique character/renegade/lunatic even amongst that lot. Kampion, aside from being a character/renegade/lunatic his own self, is simply THE historian/chronicler/storyteller of the pastime/activity/obsession/lifestyle.
To put it another way: If you're over 40 and surf this book is mandatory.
If you're under 40 and surf: "mandatory" means you should read it.
Book Review: Great Fun To Explore Summary: 5 Stars
Each chapter of this book is a great story in itself, with wonderfully intertwined perspectives ranging from the inside story of Greg Noll's epic life to the history of surfing and the evolution of the surfboards themselves. The whole thing embodies the spirit of, and respect for, the passions and traditions passed on down the generations, but is very accessible to all ages, with plenty of intriguing photos and captions. It makes a great addition to any surfer's library, or a gift that is sure to fuel the "stoke".
