Book Reviews of Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics

Book Review: A Pleased User
Summary: 5 Stars

Wallace's grammar is excellent! It is very thorough and very detailed, but also very understandable and readable. (If you disagree, just try reading through A. T. Robertson's grammar to compare!) It is full of illustrations and charts and contains detailed explanations and offers many examples of syntactical categories. He also discusses many debatable and exegeticaly significant passages, giving the eveidence for different positions. To make it even more useful, there is an index of subject, one of Greek words and one of biblical passages. It is by far the most user friendly advanced grammar in print. It is part of the same series as Mounce's beginning grammar. (For more reviews on similar books.....

Book Review: A Fantastic Exegetical Help!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the book that I used in my Greek Exegesis Class at Seminary, and it is the most helpful and up-to-date book on the market. Most helpful is both the Syntax Summaries section near the back, and the index of Scripture, which is very helpful if you'd like to reference his exegetical work on individual passages of Scripture. Dan Wallace is perhaps one of the most brilliant NT grammarians alive today. There are a few annoying aspects (if you have conservative evangelical presuppositions i.e.) such as his acceptance of 'plenary' meanings among a few other minor things. These aside however, it is still the best intermediate Grammar there is, and I would enthusiastically recommend it!

Book Review: Absolutely Essential
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is absolutely essential for great exegesis. It's not the first book you should buy to learn Greek (start with Mounce), but after you master the basics this book will help with the nuances.

This book can be used simply as a study guide, but it's really more suited as a reference guide. Instead of just starting at the beginning, if possible find a friend who already uses the book and have them explain how to use it.

I have taken many Greek courses and do a fair amount of translation. This book is absolutely essential for researching and checking subtle variations of the translation.

Book Review: A Great Grammar...Helps Your Understanding
Summary: 5 Stars

I have long enjoyed the writings of Dr. Wallace. His writings on the biblical textual issue in particular have caused my mind to be stirred and my spirit to be awakened to the living reality of the New Testament.

His grammar is only slightly less exciting than that - and that's MY fault, not his. Wallace gives many examples that make his book relevant, contemporary, and accurate. Given how difficult it really is to understand some of the Greek volumes - just read A.T. Robertson - this one never fails to make its case easier to understand.

Thank you, sir.

Book Review: Wallace's Grammer makes learning Greek a pleasure.
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a little intimadated by the size of this book, but when I got into it I found every page to be like pumping pure morphine into my veins. Wallace makes learning Greek my pleasurable pastime instead of a chore. He gives many clear examples and his exergetical insights about the Greek keep me on the edge of me seat. I started a hobby of reading this book over lunch at work, and it quickly became the favorite part of my day. I would reccomend this book to anybody who is serious about learning Greek or even those who find scholory debates over the Bible interesting in themselves.
