Book Review: This is a great collector's item!

Very good book! It's a great book for all of those Jiu-Jitsu or grappling enthusiasts and a great collector's item as well. The book emphasizes more on street self-defense rather than a full grappling instructional book as it was intended by Master Helio Gracie. So, again if you are looking to learn total grappling by the Gracies then this is not the book for you. I personally bought this book more as a collection, because I believe that Master Helio Gracie is a big part of the martial art history. I am an Aikido practitioner and I have a lot of respect to the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. I realized that no matter what art you practice, it is still important to learn the proper way of ground self-defense and the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has it all.Book Review: Simply the best martial arts book by the world's best martial artists.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu's popularity is spanning the globe at an unprecedented rate due to it's effectiveness. All Brazilian jiu-jitsu being practiced today emanated from the one man who mastered it and created Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Master Helio Gracie. I have bought several, as it makes the perfect gift for just about anyone, especially yourself!

This book is not the tell all to those looking for indepth look at BJJ and technique. It is a great table book to have for all BJJ guys that want a slice of history. Gracie JJ was created and molded by Helio and his bro Carlos to be used as a self defense art. It has taken shape today into a whole new beast. As beautiful as the art has become...this book touches on the self defense aspect of BJJ. There is a ton of stand up defense and a few chapter on the basic Gracie JJ techniques we all know and love..arm bar, triangle etc. Buy this book if you are a true fan..plain and simple!Book Review: Great table piece

You have to thank Helio for modernizing jiu jitsu. The family name and contribution to jiu jitsu / mma are what made me buy this book. I am grateful and will remember Helio Gracie forever. I purchased it about a week after he died as a personal memorial to him. The content is great if you train with the gi. I would recommend it to everyone just to see the man that really started it all as it relates to modern jiu jitsu.Book Review: Great book.

This book is not intended to replace videos or rolling to improve your Jiu-Jitsu. However, this book is must for any Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practioner or Helio Gracie admirer. Numerous color photos of the late great Helio Gracie in his 90's performing hundreds of moves on son Rorion. Also included are some vintage black & white photos of Helio competing in the 1930's. Excellent color photography by Thomas DeSoto. Buy it.
