Book Reviews of Grace After Midnight: A Memoir

Book Review: If you enjoy Snoop
Summary: 3 Stars

If you enjoy the character, you will like this book. It is very simple...reads like she is talking and someone is writing it down. It has some extreme realities that are interesting to read about and it does a nice job conveying what life was like on the streets.

Book Review: INTERESTING
Summary: 3 Stars

SNOOP WAS SUCH A POWERFUL PART IN THE WIRE, READING HER STORY WAS INTERESTING. WHOEVER DID THE SHADOW WRITING DID A MEDIOCRE JOB, SEEMED VERY CHILDISH AT TIMES.

Book Review: grace after midnight
Summary: 3 Stars

Fairly elementary reading, but a good insight into this young ladies life.
Especially for those of us that can't get enough of the Wire!!

Book Review: Grace After Midnight: A Memoir
Summary: 2 Stars

While this was an interesting read, it was less than satisfying to me, in terms of story content. The character's story is certainly credible and her young life is clearly transitioning, but the title was misleading to me. I expected to read more about the actual "Grace after midnight" more so than what seems almost like a remorseless recap of violent crime. It may seem I am being critical of the character's life story, but I do have empathy for her and the trauma and abuses she suffered as a young child. Again, the title to me was misleading, because the discussion of grace was given very little attention. The character surely has been blessed and she realizes it, but there just is not the same graphic description of how the miracle has happened and changed her life. She describes an epiphany of sorts, but it pales in comparison to the glamorization of her criminal and prison narratives. I had hoped this story could be inspirational to young people who have more choices than this young woman had, but are making similar ones to the ones she felt she had to make. The title led me to believe that there would be a story of hope and a way of letting folks know they have more choices in this world than they thought and there is grace that is sufficient for them. This is how I interpreted the title and incorrectly assumed the story would deliver such a message. Instead, it almost reads as a "how to" manual on becoming a ruthless street hustler. It does provide the reader a sense of her acknowledgement of the perils and consequences of ruthless street hustling, but I found its tone lacking in remorse and was left with a sense that this was purely a venture designed to capitalize on the notariety of the character, i.e., strike while the iron is hot and hustle some dollars, albeit it legally without causing harm to anyone. I have taken all this time to say I was disappointed with the attention given to the grace portion of Snoop's life. Granted, I maybe read too much into the title and have not taken into account the lack of time she has acknowledged being blessed and recognized that she has been walking in grace. Again it was an interesting read and I would love an opportunity to discuss more fully with other readers or even the author herself!

Book Review: Total let down
Summary: 2 Stars

I was so excited when I received this book. I had searched many stores for it and it was sold out everywhere in Baltimore. I would assume this is because Felicia Pearson is from Baltimore. Anyway, this book was not at all what I expected. It was extremely short. It took me maybe 3 or 4 hours to read the entire thing. It also lacked substance. She shyed away from most topics and the topics she did discuss were simply a breif overview that did not seem genuine at all. I learned as much from reading the description of the book on amazon as I did from the book itself.
