Book Reviews of Grace After Midnight: A MemoirBook Review: Juvenile but good... Summary: 3 Stars
Grace After Midnight was sophomoric, but interesting none the less. For me, the true test of a good autobiography is if you walk away from it feeling as if you honestly know the person . . . I did. Whether you loved the book or not, you knew that it was honest. She did not hold back or sugar coat anything. It was hard hitting and honest. I think she is a sharp young lady and when she put it in her mind to change her ways, her lifestyle, she went about the business of making it happen and that is an admirable quality. It is not an easy thing to examine ourselves so closely, so honestly and see what is not right or good and then tell it to the world anyway. Well written...
Book Review: Grace After Midnight Summary: 3 Stars
This book is not so unique. There are thousands of children born to crack-addicted parents, left to fend for themselves or even tossed in the foster care system. Felicia repeats herself constantly in the book - maybe because of the drug exposure before her birth. After 2 times it's more than apparent that she is a confirmed lesbian. Her memory seems vague also - I wouldn't recommend this book. I am glad though that she's found her way out of the ghetto and has discovered that there is more to life than selling drugs, fighting, and going to jail repeatedly.
Book Review: A Huge Fan! Summary: 3 Stars
I was a huge fan of The Wire and Snoop! After reading about Felicia Pearson's book, I had to have it! The book gives you insight into her interesting past and where she grew up which in many ways paralleled The Wire. The end of the book left more to be desired. I would like to know what her plans are now that The Wire has ended. If you were a fan of The Wire, it's a must read if not, I don't think you would bother.
Book Review: Good reading Summary: 3 Stars
The book is as it states...a memoir and not an autobiography. If you know the Snoop from HBO's The Wire, then you will understand this book. It reads as if she's telling it to you herself. Overall a good read but you can tell she held back some details you just want to know about. Maybe she'll answer those questions in the upcoming movie.
Book Review: Very fast reading Summary: 3 Stars
Felicia Pearson's memoir seems truthful, and she makes very little effort to put herself in a more attractive light. Surely her cowriter wrote a very large part of the book, but it consistently reads as her own voice. I think the book is worth buying, but most reader will finish it in well under two hours.
