Book Reviews of the Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don'tCustomer Review: One reviewer didn't actually read this book. Summary: 5 StarsAfter reading and rereading the review posted December 26 (two lousy starts), I can confidently conclude that who ever wrote that review did not actually read Good to Great. I don't want to waste other readers time countering all of the arguments made in that post, but if someone really read the book (especially the first chapter) you would know that Jim Collins research is sound and all the arguments posted on December 26 are easily "put to bed". I love that this book was a book of facts, research, and real data. It is not a book of "management theory", "growth strategies" and the like - it's research. Until the final chapter (when Jim Collins tried to tie this into his previous book Built to Last), I felt the content was 99% bias free. Disciplined people, disciplined thought, and disciplined action. These are not novelties, if you were to read Covey, Orman, or a million other authors you could extrapolate the same principles - but for some reason this book was the bat that drove me home! It will not only change the way I work, but it will change the way I live. Truly. This book has given me the tools to build a context in which to make consistently smart decisions. Thanks to Jim and his research team. P.S. I would have loved to have heard more about the use of "catalytic mechanisms" in these companies. I know there may be a solid reason for leaving them out, but after reading the HBR article, my curiousity is peaked.
