Book Review: EXCITING, UNIQUE COOKBOOK...from author of EXPLOSION IN PARIS....

I never heard of Alton Brown and I'm pretty sure if I'd seen it out in a store and was looking for a cookbook I would probably have walked past it. But I happened to see him on a talk show making these dishes that looked and sounded wonderful. I was shocked and overwhelmed by the overwhelming information, trivia and such and the layout of this huge, heavy book. The recipes I tried were tasty and I plan to try more after the holidays. This must have been quite an undertaking to put this unique book together! I was impressed!Book Review: Best Book EVER!!

I love watching "Good Eats", but I absolutely love the book. I didn't think I could love a book as much as this but it is full of information. Instead of just recipes it gives reasons why things work. I love the science that is a part of this book. I think how Alton tells you about devices that can make things easier and even things that may not work. I think I might pitch all my other cookbooks so I can have enough room for the next two books. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
AND THE BEST PART IS THE POSTER!!

I just got this book for Christmas and it is fantastic. It's basically like having the first 80 episodes at your finger tips, anytime you need them! I always dvr and save specific episodes if I feel like it's something I want to try to make, and I like reviewing the episode for little tidbits of information that may not be included in online recipes. Now I have the tidbits and the recipes on hand without having to rewatch the episodes! I love this book and can't wait until the Middle Ages comes out!

Not much can be added to the other reviews. While the book is filled with recipes, that isnt the entire point of the book. The book is filled with tips, quips, facts and other Alton-isms and is a ton of fun. a great book to just leave out - and one that is not content to leave stuffed on the shelf with those other pretentious cookbooks.

I didn't see this in other reviews but the dust jacket unfolds to a fun 20.5 X 29.5 poster. Framed mine, and hung it on the wall.

The only way this could get better is if it contained a DVD of each episode. Each show is perfectly distilled into its essence for easy and quick reading with all the information and humor you expect from Alton Brown. Updated revisions on applications (recipes) or techniques when necessary, and brilliantly illustrated in this LARGE book. It also has one of the best cover designs of all times that folds out into a full-size poster! A must have for any fan of food, science, cooking or humor.
